Sierra-at-Tahoe to close Sunday due to severe storm forecast

Due to the storm forecast to high the Lake Tahoe Basin, Sierra-at-Tahoe has decided to not open on Sunday.

They said they've checked multiple forecasts and spoke with the National Weather Service, and since both were advising people to not travel over the mountain roads they closed due to safety concerns.

"We believe that the best call for everyone's safety is to suspend operations for tomorrow," the ski resort said on social media. "Your safety is our primary concern."

The forecasts have winds exceeding 100 mph throughout the day, causing low visibility on the mountain and roads. Blizzard like conditions are forecast as well with snow accumulation of 4-6 feet in less than a 24-hour period.

Sierra-at-Tahoe will have crews at the resort working around the clock to prepare the mountain for when they feel it’s safe enough to reopen.
