Highway 50 back open over Echo Summit; Cars stuck on side roads

Echo Summit was closed this morning so crews could work on avalanche control, creating a backup not only on Highway 50 in Meyers, but on side roads leading to the summit. Heavy snow stranded several motorists on North Upper Truckee near Mt. Rainer. Lake Tahoe Blvd was closed at Sawmill Pond while the highway was closed to prevent more drivers from driving towards North Upper Truckee.

At 10:00 a.m., there are no closures but that situation can change due to the winter storm hitting Lake Tahoe. Cars are reported stuck in the road on Susquehana Drive and Pioneer Trail and Mandan Street and Apache Avenue.
