Gardnerville man arrested on multiple counts of sexual assault on minors in South Lake Tahoe

UPDATE 1/29/19 - The South Lake Tahoe store where the suspect allegedly committed the crimes against children was the Goodwill store at the Y. The South Lake Tahoe Police Department is thanking Goodwill and their employees for the "tremendous amount of help we got from them." They are crediting the store's quick response and assistance that allowed them to identify this suspect.

The suspect, Sergio Antonio Recendiz-Rodriguez, was not an employee at the store.

The 49-year-old Gardnerville resident is in the country illegally and ICE currently has a hold on him and he is in the Douglas County Jail awaiting extradition to South Lake Tahoe.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A Gardnerville, Nevada man has been arrested and is currently in the Douglas County Jail on charges the illegal immigrant sexually assaulted several minors inside a South Lake Tahoe business.

A warrant out of El Dorado County was served on 46-year-old Sergio Antonio Recendiz-Rodriguez on January 25, 2019, leading to his arrest and booking. He is charged with multiple counts of sexual battery on minors under the age of 14.

The South Lake Tahoe Police Department has been investigating the crimes and expects more victims to come forward. They are not naming the business at this time. The suspect did not work at the place where the crimes allegedly took place.

Recendiz-Rodriguez is being held without bail due to the South Shore warrant. It is unknown when he will be extradited to South Lake Tahoe by the District Attorney's Office. He also has an immigration hold on him due to his allegedly being in the country illegally.
