Letter: Clean, community-minded thinking needed for survival of South Lake Tahoe

Letter to the Community: We have lost business due to shutdowns, COVID-19, the Caldor Fire, road construction, no workers, inflation, overpriced real estate, and entitled locals who want everything for free or wages they think they deserve. Not to mention the long-time residents that are moving due to the high costs of living here.

Many of the residents that are moving are the ones that always donate to the community through volunteering their services or monetary donations to charities. Not peeps that just moved here. Some of our service clubs are dying off as well due to the younger generation not joining and giving back to their community.

I could go on also with the constant taxing of not only the residents but second homeowners to death. All in the name of helping people who do not contribute to this community or are here for just a few years to be a Skibum.

Yes, I have painted a gloomy outlook for the future of this place I have called Home since '77. When you have been here as long as I have you would understand.

Also understand that I think clearly and without the benefit of drugs or alcohol to deaden my thought process. Try looking at this place as I do. Before you or anyone says I am against using pot or alcohol and thinks I am preaching. You should know that I spent 31 days at the Roseville Hospital for drug and alcohol addiction. I also bartended here for 23 years from 1980 to 2003.

I don't give a crap what people do to themselves. I just want those that do to not be making decisions for this community.

Thanks
Kenny "Skibum" Curtzwiler
