Meet champion skier at Bank of the West in South Lake Tahoe

Truckee resident Daron Rahvles will stop by South Lake Tahoe's Bank of the West on Friday to celebrate the beginning of the second stop on the Rahvles Banzai Tour at Kirkwood.

Rahvles will be at the bank, located at 2161 Lake Tahoe Blvd, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. for a meet and greet,

The Rahlves' Banzai Tour is racing in it's purest form according to Rahvles' website. Big mountain freeride meets ski / boarder-cross action! The tour stops at Kirkwood on March 7 and 8, which is the second stop after February's Alpine Meadows. The final stop will March 14-15 at Sugar Bowl.

Racers go down the mountain had to head, four at a time from the top of the mountain, to the bottom. The races is a wide open course over natrual terrain, a true test of ski and riding skills.

Rahlves earned three World Championships medals, a gold in 2001 in the Super G and a silver and bronze (downhill and giant slalom) in 2005. His best year in the overall World Cup standings was 2006, when he finished fourth. Rahlves' best years in the downhill standings were 2003 and 2004, when he placed second. He was also the runner-up in the Super G standings in 2004.

Rahlves was named to the U.S. Olympic team as a freestyle skier for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. He competed in the ski cross event and placed 24th.

Rahlves has been featured in several movies as his racing career matured and after retirement.
