South Lake Tahoe teen up for Youth of the Year

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - If the name Mya Rossi rings a bell, you would be correct. South Tahoe Now has carried two stories on the 14-year-old, one when she became the Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe Youth of the Year, and the second when she was awarded the Hank Aaron Chasing the Dream Scholarship to attend Science Camp of America: Air and Space in Hawaii.

Now Mya has made it to the Northern California Regional Finals for the Boys and Girls Club of America Youth of the Year Competition.

Mya has been a member of the Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe for over 6 years. This was the first year she was old enough to be entered into the National competition and staff are delighted that she has made it to the Regional Finals, despite being one of the youngest contestants.

“Mya isn’t just a great student, athlete and club member, she is also a wonderful person,” said Jude Wood, Executive Director. “We are incredibly proud that she is representing the Club and our community in the National Competition”.

The regional finals will take place this Friday, March 16, at the Microsoft building in San Jose. Mya will travel down with two representatives from the Club and will undergo a full day of competition against young men and women from across Northern California. Mya will give a three minute speech on her Club experience and her goals for young people of the future. She will also participate in panels and questioning. Only one chaperone is allowed to watch the competition, but the Club will endeavor to live stream the event to their Facebook page.

The Club would also like to congratulate the Club Junior Youth of the Year Arianna Deleon and runners-up Madison Gallop and Emmie Fiel.

"We are confident that these exceptional young women will follow in Mya’s footsteps in a few years," said Wood.
