Dog Ordinance, Lime Bikes and budget on Tuesday's CIty Council agenda

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Tuesday, March 19, 2019, is an evening meeting for the South Lake Tahoe City Council with a start time of 5:30 p.m. at their airport chambers.

The area manager for Lime Bike will give the council a presentation on Lime Bike, the popular electric scooters available seasonally in South Lake Tahoe. They have operated in the city limits for two seasons and intend to return again in May. To date, the City has not regulated Lime Bikes but may consider it in the future. City staff has suggested that Lime voluntarily implement strategies to address safety and fleet management issues, and the Lime presentation includes a brief explanation of their efforts. The council may wish to provide Lime with one more season of experience without City regulation, and then consider implementing a regulatory program for 2020 and beyond, or they may wish to direct City staff to begin developing a relatively simplistic regulatory program for implementation in the 2019 season.

Also on the agenda is a report from City staff regarding the City's current dog

ordinance (which essentially requires dogs to be on a leash when off the owner's property, and specifically prohibits dogs in City parks), a recap of previously solicited public opinion, and ideas for potential future amendments aimed at creating a more dog-friendly environment in South Lake Tahoe. City Council will consider this information and is asked to provide direction to City staff on any desired amendments. As public input will be critical, one potential path forward is to task the City's Parks and Recreation Commission with developing recommendations for Council consideration in the future.

They will also be voting on spending about $450,000 on the next phase of Pioneer Trail sidewalks, bike lanes, ADA crosswalks, lighting improvements, bus shelters,
minor stormwater improvements, and landscaping along Pioneer Trail between Ski Run Boulevard and Larch Avenue. The money will be spent on design and the approximate $2M project is funding mainly by grants already received.

The meeting is televised on Channel 21 and is carried live on the City's Facebook page.
