Viking Corner: This Week at South Tahoe High

At South Tahoe High School, the students celebrated the first day of Spring with jeans and t-shirts, as the temperatures got up to 50F and the ice melted away. This week started with an emotional experience at Challenge Day, students prepare for SAT and ACT testing, the athletics team have kicked off their seasons.

In School
Challenge Day took place on Monday in the Student Union at STHS. About 60 students, selected for their leadership potentials, participated in activities aimed at improving the student life on campus. With Challenge Day organizers, Katie Salvage and Kevin Synarski, leading the event, students went through emotional and sometimes life-changing experience, as they heard intimate stories from other STHS students they wouldn’t usually socialize with.

In Academics
Students are preparing for the upcoming midterms on April 4 and 5, followed by the start of the second term. Registration for the May 4 SAT ends April 5, while registration for the June 8 ACT ends May 3.

Advanced Placement tests are also around the corner, with the majority of the tests scheduled for May.

In Athletics
The boys’ and girls’ swim teams have a meet today at 12:30 p.m. in Reno’s Northwest Pool.

The varsity track team compete in an invitational at Casa Grande High School, 8:00 a.m. today.

The baseball (5-1, 5-1) and softball (0-2, 0-2) teams left at 4 a.m. today for games on Friday and Saturday at Elko High School.
