Arrests made in Douglas County after suspects found with $550K in stolen checks and mail

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - Deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) made a vehicle stop on April 15 at 11:50 p.m. after the driver was seen speeding. inside the car, a 2008 Toyota Camry, were Keyli Escalante-Enamorado and Rudy Socop-Domingo. A consent search of the Toyota revealed over three hundred pieces of opened and unopened mail that included 261 personal and business checks totaling over $555,000. A majority of the stolen checks were written to the IRS. Also, located in the Toyota were two homemade mail fishing devices made of vinyl strips, duct tape, and weights. The devices used the sticky portion of “Rat Traps” to remove mail from the postal containers.

DCSO said both Escalante-Enamorado and Socop-Domingo are apparently in the US illegally and were deported from the United States in 2019 under Sections 212 and 237.

Escalante-Enamorado and Socop-Domingo were both booked into the DCSO Minden Jail for a multitude of felony charges including Fraud, Swindle, Confidence Game, Identify Theft, Possession of Stolen Property, Possession of Credit Card without consent, Possession of Burglary Tools, Theft over $5,000.00, Tampering with the Mail and Uttering a Forged instrument.

Escalante-Enamorado’s bail is $435,974 and Socop-Domingo’s bail is $350,039.

DCSO has reached out to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to request an immigration hold placed on both suspects.

The mail and checks found in the suspect's car are from Douglas County, Carson City, Lyon County, Washoe County, Storey County, and numerous locations in California.

The sheriff's office will be contacting agencies in those communities and individual victims in Douglas County as soon as possible.

DCSO has reached out to the US Postal Inspector’s Office and Homeland Security to assist with this investigation.
