Multiple agencies respond to fire Saturday in prescribed burn area of South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Several agencies responded to a report of fire behind Sierra Tahoe Ready-Mix near Twin Peaks in South Lake Tahoe just before noon on Saturday, April 27.

According to South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue (SLTFR) Battalion Chief Jay Manning, they arrived at the area to see flames in vegetation on U.S. Forest Service land. Lake Valley Fire Protection District (LVFPD) was the first to arrive, SLTFR followed along with Tahoe Douglas Fire and Cal Fire as the USFS crews were tied up away from the area. With windy conditions, SLTFR and LVFPD called in off-duty personnel to prepare to fight the fire.

Meeks Bay Fire then moved in to cover Meyers.

Once USFS fire crews arrived, all the other agencies were called off.

It is estimated the fire burned about two acres according to SLTFR Battalion Chief Jay Manning.

USFS says the fire was within the boundaries of their recent prescribed fire in the area.

"We thank our local, state and federal firefighters who responded to the prescribed fire near the airport when it became active earlier this afternoon under dry, windy conditions. The prescribed fire is completely contained and remained entirely within the unit boundary," said the USFS Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit in a statement on their Facebook page Saturday evening. "Forest Service crews have been monitoring the unit following ignitions that took place earlier this week."
