Celebrating South Tahoe High's seniors in a socially distancing manner

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - With the Class of 2020 having a graduation experience unlike any in history, parents and faculty are trying to still create a remembrance now that traditional graduation ceremonies are canceled.

For South Tahoe High School (STHS), all 226 graduates received yard/window signs over the past few days. Principal Carline Sinkler, teachers, staff, and other volunteers visited each home in South Lake Tahoe with the signs provided by the Barton Foundation.

We've already shared the sorry about a Facebook group created to honor those STHS, Whittell and Mt. Tallac seniors with gifts by those who "adopt" them for the occasion. Over 100 students have been "adopted" to date.

El Dorado County Board of Education has confirmed STHS can at least do a "drive-through" graduation ceremony though Sinkler is hoping for a blend between a virtual and traditional commencement ceremony.

"We are fortunate that El Dorado County has been given permission for a Phase 2 re-opening and are hopeful that this will allow us to retain some aspects of in-person graduation. STHS tentatively, June 19 and Mt. Tallac, tentatively June 18," said Sinkler.

The high school is currently creating a show with speeches that will be released on their YouTube channel and there will be more information coming on that.

"All plans include special attention to safety and health guidelines. We are encouraged that our survey data demonstrates a commitment from our students and parents to follow these guidelines," said Sinkler.
