Public invited to US50 Main Street Management Plan Open House

Event Date:
May 29, 2019 - 5:30pm

The next phase of the Highway 50 South Shore Community Revitalization Project (SSCRP) begins with an open house on its Main Street Management Plan on Wednesday, May 29 at the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) office from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The public is welcome to drop in any time.

SSCRP, commonly referred to as the Loop Road Project, will include seven more key components to be completed by the TRPA and Tahoe Transportation District (TTD). The first of those components is the Main Street Management Plan.

The plan will provide design concepts and policy recommendations for the street corridor after Highway 50 is rerouted to the east from Lake Parkway to the intersection of Pioneer Trail.

Relocating the five-lane US highway presents a unique opportunity to redesign the existing mile-long corridor to prioritize people, active transportation modes, sustainability, business vitality, and the overall community needs on this South Shore corridor. To achieve this, the Main Street Management Plan will include design concepts and policy recommendations that will address the following:

- The street corridor between Lake Parkway to the intersection of Pioneer Trail
- The adjacent properties along the street corridor
- Transportation modes: Pedestrians, bicycles, transit, scooters, other personal mobility devices and vehicles for business, emergency, and service access

The goal is a plan that provides a world-class space for people, enhances the environment for those visiting surrounding properties, and provides for an experience that matches the unique natural environment at Lake Tahoe.

There will be more public workshops and Stakeholder Working Group meetings on the plan before the end of 2019, including workshops on July 24 and Sept. 25.

The seven remaining components of SSCRP, including the Main Street plan:

4: Circulator Transit (TTD Lead)
