25th America's Most Beautiful Bike Ride on Sunday

Mountain Resort Television reporter Nicole Marsel interviews Curtis Fong about Sunday's annual America's Most Beautiful Bike Ride, an event he created 25 years ago.

The 72-mile America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride circumnavigates the highways clockwise around Lake Tahoe in both Nevada and California. It includes a challenging 800 foot climb to a rest stop overlooking Emerald Bay and a 1,000 foot climb to Spooner Junction. There are also many short rolling ascents and descents totaling over 4,024 vertical feet of elevation gain! The altitude ranges between 6,300 feet and 7,100 feet above sea level and the ride is recommended for conditioned recreational bicyclist, not for beginners.

Nearly 3,000 cyclists from throughout the United States come to Tahoe to ride around the Lake. For many, nearly 2,000 riders, they are here as a personal challenge and commitment to their friends and loved ones who have been inflicted with the Leukemia/Lymphoma disease. Each passionate rider has raised at least $4,000 to be here and some have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to help fund the research to discover a cure for these deadly diseases. This event is the largest fundraiser for Lymphoma/Leukemia Society in the nation - one year they raised nearly $8,ooo,ooo dollars.
