Man arrested in South Lake Tahoe on Bay Area home invasion and assault charges

The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office helped investigators from the Dublin (CA) Police and Alameda County Sheriff's office arrest a 38-year-old man in South Lake Tahoe on Tuesday, June 9. Dublin Police had a warrant for the arrest of Matthew Daniel Muller, a suspect in an attempted home invasion robbery that resulted in the assault of the homeowner.

Muller, a resident of Orangevale, CA, was found in his family vacation home on Genoa Avenue in the county portion of the South Shore.

According to the Dublin police, the alleged robbery attempt occurred on June 5 at 3:30 a.m. after a Dublin couple were awakened by a masked man in their bedroom.

"The suspect entered the home through a first floor open window and went upstairs, where the husband, wife, and older daughter were sleeping,” said Dublin Police Lieutenant Herb Walters of the department's press information office. The suspect woke up the husband and wife and attempted to tie them up but the wife got away and called 9-1-1 from her cell phone.

The husband suffered a head injury after fighting with the suspect, but was able to pull his mask off according to Walters. The injury was caused by a blunt instrument, possibly a flashlight.

The Dublin Police could not locate the suspect after he ran from the residence. The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment of a head wound.

An investigation led the department to South Lake Tahoe. El Dorado County Sheriff's Office(EDSO) assisted in the serving of the search warrant and subsequent arrest. As Dublin investigators remained at the scene, EDSO transported Muller to the county jail on Johnson Avenue according to Sgt Michael Seligsohn.

Muller was booked into custody for attempted robbery, burglary, assault with a deadly weapon, and assault with great bodily injury. He remains in the El Dorado County Jail in South Lake Tahoe waiting extradition, held on a $380,000 bail hold.
