Wild Tahoe Weekend at Taylor Creek in South Lake Tahoe

The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) will host the eighth Wild Tahoe Weekend 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., on Saturday and Sunday, June 23-24, 2018 at the Taylor Creek Visitor Center, located three miles north of South Lake Tahoe on Highway 89. The weekend event consists of the Native Species Festival on Saturday and the Lake Tahoe Bird Festival on Sunday.
Join them for a two-day weekend festival to learn more about the plants and animals of the Lake Tahoe Basin! Both days will feature free nature walks, educational talks, booths with fascinating information to learn about the day’s theme.
Saturday, June 23 - Native Species Festival
On Saturday, June 23 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., the Native Species Festival will be a great way to spend the day outdoors and learn about the many native plant and animal species of the Lake Tahoe Basin. Attend walks led by field professionals and explore educational booths from various public and nonprofit agencies. Participants will experience frequent visits from Lulu the Lahontan Cutthroat Trout and Smokey Bear.
Sunday, June 24 - Lake Tahoe Bird Festival
The Tahoe Institute for Natural Science (TINS), in partnership with LTBMU, will host the 8th annual Lake Tahoe Bird Festival on Sunday. Located at Taylor Creek Visitor Center, just three miles north of South Lake Tahoe on Highway 89, residents and visitors are invited to attend this free family event from 10:00 a.m. until .3:00 pm.
Be sure to join in on the fun as the event includes hourly guided bird walks along the Rainbow Trail in search of local birds of the Tahoe region. In addition, the bird festival will offer information and presentations on migratory birds, bird crafts and games, bird house building, demonstrations with live birds, a falconer, and much more. Various local agencies will be participants of the Bird Festival including California State Parks, Nevada Department of Wildlife, Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care and much more. Food vendors will be present.
