Four more South Tahoe High athletes heading off to play at college level

Four more athletes from South Tahoe High School have committed to play at the next level in their respective sports.

On Monday, Chris Pfister, a pitcher with the Vikings, announced his plans to head to Butte College to play baseball next year, and Bryin Schouten, a tennis ace at STHS, announced he'll be playing the game at Folsom Lake College.

Last week, Matt Cain committed to play football with Mesa College and Peyton Galli will head to the baseball diamond for Santa Barbara City College.

"Chris is our bull dog on the mound," said Coach Starbuck Teevan said of Pfister. "We're definitely going to miss him."

Teevan, who is in his eighth year at STHS, said there are big shoes to fill with the departure of Pfister, their number one pitcher.

The recent graduate will be majoring in Kinesiology at Butte College in Oroville, Calif. Chris has been playing baseball since he was four-years-old. He skipped T-Ball and went straight to Single A, paving his way to a successful baseball career in his younger years. He started playing Varsity for the Vikings his freshman year.

Chris, a South Lake Tahoe native, is the son of John and Mia Pfister.

Bryin Schouten will be taking his tennis talents over the hill to Folsom Lake College.

Coach Will Davenport said Bryin won the clinching match in their regular season final, sending the Vikings to playoffs.

"He taught himself how to play, he's a great athlete," said Coach Davenport of Bryin.

Schouten has played varsity tennis all four years at South Tahoe High. He plans to major in physical education and become a P.E. teacher.

He is the son of Deanna and Ryan Schouten and grandson of Kim and Mike Schouten, all of South Lake Tahoe.
