4th of July sobriety check point on South Shore

There will be a State of Nevada Law Enforcement DUI check point in the Douglas County portion of South Lake Tahoe on Saturday, July 4.

There is a large increase in both vehicular and pedestrian traffic along the area's roads due to the fireworks display and holiday parties. The increase in law enforcement presence at Lake Tahoe will help deter motorists and pedestrians from entering the roadways while impaired.

The Nevada Highway Patrol and Douglas County Sheriff's Department will have additional officer patrolling the area throughout the weekend to further protects pedestrians and other motorists from impaired drivers.

The NHP would like to urge motorists and pedestrians to use extra caution during this holiday and use a designated driver. Please buckle up and remember not to use cellular devices while operating a motor vehicle.

Sheriff Ron Pierini and members of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office also want to remind and educate residents and guests that the possession and or discharge of fireworks in Douglas County is unlawful and will not be tolerated. Persons found in violation of the fireworks ordinance face criminal penalties, including a fine of up to $1,000.00 and/or confinement in the county jail for a period of up to six months.
