Fan life at the 2019 American Century Championship

A bit of magic took place on the 17th hole this weekend at Edgewood Tahoe golf course when Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry asked a young fan dressed in all-Warriors gear to join him on the green. Tyler Golla from Sparks ran on to the course to meet his favorite idol.

Security followed closely behind as Curry made Golla, 15, comfortable by letting him take part in an improvised hoops shoot-out in front of hundreds of fans – and with Justin Timberlake joining the competition. As Golla shot the ball, Curry and Timberlake signed his Warriors hat.

“Just being next to [Curry] and shooting that shot. Meeting Justin Timberlake. It was all incredible,” said Golla.

Many fans had a chance to see their favorite athletes, actors and celebrities at the 2019 American Century Championship. In addition to Curry and Timberlake, stars like Tony Romo and Ray Romano spent the week at the annual celebrity golf tournament.

Locals and tourists of all ages came to watch. Crowds gathered around, shouting and commenting, in hopes that the celebrities would pay them some attention.

As Romano, Emmy Award-winning actor and comedian, teed up on the 9th hole, a fan on the sideline shouted, “Everybody Loves Raymond,” referring to his popular TV comedy show. Romano turned around and smiled at the fan saying, “thank you.”

When Curry teed off on the 12th hole, a fan shouted “Durant could never do that,” referring to former teammate Kevin Durant. The NBA star recently decided to leave the Golden State Warriors for the Brooklyn Nets.

AJ Hawk, a former NFL linebacker, got up close and personal with fans, as he shot the ball from the trees on hole 10. The crowd surrounded him, trying to help him figure out how to get the ball through the trees and back on to the course.

Some fans were lucky enough to have conversations with celebrities. Travis Kelce, tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, held a conversation about the season with a fan as the two walked along the rope.
