The human remains found in King Canyon near Spooner Summit in June of 2014 have been identified as Ryan Wallace Osburn.
At the time of his death, the 32-year-old Osburn was a Reno resident.
The remains had been subjected to heavy animal predation which required the identification of the remains by DNA analysis and comparison to family members.
Last year, on June 23, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of the remains being found. Investigators recovered the remains of Osburn, personal property, a handgun, projectile and shell. It was determined that he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
At the time of his death Osburn was a resident of Reno, Nevada and prior that he lived in Ocala, Florida. His listed occupation as a professional gambler.
