Supervisor Novasel creates South Lake Tahoe/El Dorado County vision committee

Supervisor Sue Novasel, Lake Tahoe’s representative on the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors, announced the formation of an ad hoc committee that will engage a visioning process related to future development and use of County-owned properties and facilities in South Lake Tahoe. The vision committee will join with two members of the City Council and staff in collaborating toward mutual facility goals.

“We are opening the door for discussions that will secure our senior programs at the Senior Center, and also allow our community to showcase its activities, events, along with our historic and cultural heritage at this special location on the County’s 56-acres”, says Novasel.

The discussions will include the County-owned properties consisting of Lakeview Commons, Campground by the Lake and the buildings that house the Senior Center, Museum, Art Building and the Visitors’ Center. El Dorado County owns the land and provides programs within the Senior Center like Senior Nutrition, Senior Legal Services, and Veterans Services while the City currently oversees operations and maintenance of the buildings.

“As a former member of the 56-acre steering committee, I can assure all that this area will be protected as a community gathering place, with the library, senior programs, the arts, special events, recreation, camping and a place to tell Tahoe’s unique story”, said Novasel.

The Board of Supervisors voted to approve her recommendation on the creation of an ad hoc committee and will work with the City of South Lake Tahoe Council Members on positive options and solutions that best serve the public.

Joining Supervisor Novasel on the ad hoc vision committee will be Supervisor Ron Mikulaco and Supervisor Brian Veerkamp as the alternate.

It is expected that the ad hoc committee will report back to the Board of Supervisors in the afternoon of August 31 at their special meeting held in the City of South Lake Tahoe Council Chambers.
