Woman injured after high speed motorcycle chase in South Lake Tahoe

An attempted traffic stop in South Lake Tahoe Saturday afternoon led to a high speed chase through town that ended with a woman being injured and the suspect getting away.

At 12:35 p.m. July 29, a call came into police dispatch about a disturbance between a male and female on the side of Tahoe Keys Boulevard near the intersection with Michael Drive. The caller said it appeared the female was trying to leave the area but was being prevented by a male on a motorcycle.

South Lake Tahoe Police responded three minutes later and saw the pair on the bike and as they turned up James Avenue from Tahoe Keys Blvd. A high speed pursuit began as the motorcycle got onto State Highway 89. Law enforcement followed as they turned southwest onto Lake Tahoe Blvd.

As the motorcycle made a left turn onto Sawmill Pond Road it hit a ditch and the driver "laid the bike down."

The female passenger was injured and stayed with the bike, the male driver took off on foot into a nearby meadow. After a search of the area, the unidentified man could not be found.

The case is under investigation and there could be more information released on Wednesday according to Lt. David Stevenson of the South Lake Tahoe Police Department.

The driver's name is not being released at this time. He could be facing felony evading charges.
