Nevada raffling off iconic welcome signs

The 25-year-old iconic "Welcome to Nevada" signs from highways around the state are going to be raffled off to some lucky residents.
The Nevada Department of Transportation is replacing the old, obsolete signs, depicting a lone miner that once greeted travelers to the state. They held a recent contest for Nevada high school students for the design of a new series of signs.

Organized by the Nevada Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs in partnership with the Nevada Department of Education and NDOT, the contest invited the public to vote on new welcome sign designs which incorporate new Nevada imagery and branding.

“These new signs will be an important representation of the new Nevada that better reflects our state brand, “A World Within, A State Apart,” NDOT Communications Director Sean Sever explained. “The existing signs that have stood on Nevada roadways for many years are a source of pride and state identityfor Nevadans, which is why we wanted to share them and offer a chance for people to bring a bit of state history home.”

To win the old signs, Nevada residents may enter for free at nevadadot.com or by calling (775) 888-7000. Residents can also enter by direct messaging through the Department’s Facebook and Twitter social media accounts. One winner willbe randomly selected from each region (northwest, northeast, southwest and southeast) shortly before the Nevada Day holiday weekend and personally notified as the existing signs are replaced beginning this year. Only one entry per person is allowed, and winners must be Nevada residents and willing to sign a waiver regarding lawful usage of the signage.
