El Dorado County appoints two new directors for reorganized departments

El Dorado County reorganized what is now Community Development Services to include directors of three primary departments, and they recently announced the hiring of two of those new directors, one for Planning & Building and the other for Environmental Management. Both men were interim directors as the departments were being reorganized and the search for director was underway.

Roger Trout was appointed as Director of Planning and Building. He started with the County in 1990 as assistant planner. Trout was promoted to senior planner where he served for seven years and then principal planner for another seven years.

“With more than 27 years of experience in nearly every capacity of the County’s Planning and Building functions, Roger’s expertise of El Dorado County is particularly valuable as we make many of our processes more streamlined and easier for the public to access,” said Chief Administrator, Don Ashton.

“I’m honored to serve in this capacity for the residents of El Dorado County,” said Trout. “I have a deep interest in and understanding of local planning and building regulations and codes, as well as those at a state and federal level that impact how we provide services through this department. I look forward to bringing my experience and talents to bear as the County moves toward its future.”

Trout holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Planning and Management from the University of California, Davis.

Greg Stanton was appointed by the Board of Supervisors as Director of Environmental Management.

Stanton has held positions within the County as Solid Waste Supervisor, Environmental Health Manager, Deputy Director of the Environmental Management division, and Division Director of Environmental Health. He is a registered Environmental Health Specialist with the State.

In addition to his work in the public sector, Stanton has more than 22 years in the private sector in fields directly related to environmental management programs, such as food safety and food facility operations, potable water,
recreational water safety and wastewater treatment plant operations.

“Greg brings to this new position more than 14 years with El Dorado County in the area of environmental management and more than 17 years in the public sector,” said Chief Administrator, Don Ashton. “His exceptional leadership skills and deep commitment to the County will help enhance the public health, safety and
environment for all residents. We are very fortunate to have his expertise to help guide this County through environmental management issues.”

“I’m delighted to continue the path I’ve been on with the County for so many years,” said Stanton. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to keep doing what I’m passionate about in the hopes of making a positive difference for the
residents of El Dorado County.”

Stanton holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from San Diego State University.
