Shawlapalooza to feature local musicians while raising funds for new music school

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Shawlapalooza, a benefit concert with over six local bands, will be held on September 16 from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. at South of North Brewing Co. in South Lake Tahoe.

It will be a full day of music to benefit the opening of ABCD Music School. The bands featured during Shawlapalooza are The Residents Tahoe, Hodgie, Sugarpines, Ash Relics Trio, Sweaty Stevenson & the Water Boys, and Nic Shaw.

ABCD Music Lessons is a for-profit music education organization based in South Lake Tahoe. Their mission is to provide local musicians with affordable music theory lessons, lectures, and individualized guidance via a unique ABCD Music Lessons curriculum, subsidized by the funding they raise.

Their four-step lesson approach (hence the name ABCD) is based on a visual, auditory, and hands-on learning experience with the intention to expand student’s appreciation and immersion into topics of music beyond simply mastering an instrument or learning how to read music.

Funds raised will provide a stipend to teachers, property leases, school supplies, learning materials, website fees, and insurance coverage. ABCD Music Lessons was created by Daniel Rassp; a graduate of the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Mass. Co-creators include Sean Hodge and Nic Shaw, who are also accomplished musicians.
