LTUSD board meeting wrap-up

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - During its August 24 board meeting, the Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) announced they are fully staffed for r certificated positions.

Trustee Jon Hetherton commended the District for moving in the right direction and gave accolades for the sense of community that was present during the Welcome Back Staff meeting and the New Staff Orientation event. Bernadette Santana, Classified School Employee Association (CSEA) President, also noted the excitement about the start of the new school year and the spirit of collaboration.

Superintendent Dr. Todd Cutler asked everyone to attend the "State of Education," a Town Hall meeting hosted by the Tahoe Chamber. The event will be held at the Beach Retreat on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at 6:30 p.m.

Associate Superintendent Dr. Alan Reeder introduced Lanette Rangel and Adilene De La Torre of the United States Forest Service (USFS). The two partner with LTUSD staff to provide exciting and innovative programming for students and teach conservation education. Dr. Reeder shared the following from Career Technical Education Specialist, Alissa Zertuche about the partnership: “We [LTUSD] could not have our programming without them. They grant us permission to use the land for our field trips, open gates early for us, help organize the experience for the students, teach some of the stations, and often are the lead role for the day. They are phenomenal partners." Ms. Rangel and Ms. De La Torre described the extensive programs the USFS supports from elementary school through high school which include: trips on Lake Tahoe, the Winter Trek Express, and Generation Green.

Dr. Reeder explained student achievement results from the 2022-23 school year by sharing data analysis of student District assessments, student state assessments, and student attendance. He noted that there are areas for improvement as well as areas for growth for LTUSD students. LTUSD staff shared that they will continue to implement plans for improvement and anticipate increased student success as a result.

Dr. Reeder described the preparation and readiness of school sites for the start of the school year and noted that Mt. Tallac launched the new school year at Al Tahoe Learning Center where Kelly Martin is the new principal.
Human Resources Director John Simons noted that the District is prioritizing the well-being of LTUSD staff and that certificated positions are fully staffed and classified positions are almost fully staffed. Simons described the positive working environment with the South Tahoe Education Association and CSEA.
