The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office patrol boat and search and rescue volunteers responded to the call of kayakers in distress on Lake Tahoe's wind whipped waters on October 3. In a report released today, Sgt. Steve Fleischmann of EDCSO reported that they received a call saying that multiple kayakers were in the water and needed help near Camp Richardson. When the rescue team arrived they found two kayakers in the water, two overturned kayaks and an additional kayaker still in his boat attempting to assist the others.
One of the rescued men was transported to Barton Hospital where he was treated for hypothermia and later released. A CalStar helicopter responded to the area to search for a kayaker still missing from the group. He was found to be safe on the shore at Whiskey Cove.
