Lake Tahoe casinos at Stateline continue winning streak

Lake Tahoe casinos at Stateline continued healthy gains this summer, taking in $27.3 million in August, a 16.2 percent increase over 2010 figures for the same month, the Nevada gaming control board reports today.
Nevada’s nonrestricted gaming licensees reported a total “gaming win” of $886,861,912 for the month of August 2011, 6.10 percent decrease compared to August 2010, when licensees reported a gaming win of $944,457,344. Gaming profits in Stateline in August 2010 were 23,518,599.
Todays figures come as continued good news for South Shore casinos, particularly in an area which has had its share of poor economic news, failed businesses, layoffs and high unemployment.

Blockbuster concerts, Hot August Nights and the last days of the month that led up to the long Labor Day weekend were likely contributors to the gaming spike. Tahoe remains a favorite among second homeowners and Sacramento Valley visitors looking to escape the heat.
Last month the gaming control board reported July figures for South Tahoe casinos jump 25 percent in revenue over July 2010 figures. Stateline casinos took in a win of $29,808,523 in July. A likely draw to casinos was the 22nd annual American Century Championship held July 12-17 at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course.
Elsewhere, casinos in Carson City and the Carson Valley of Douglas County saw slight decreases in gaming profits. The casinos took in $8,784,316 compared to $9,335,712 in August 2010.
Casinos on the north shore didn't do as well, seeing its numbers decline, nearly 19 percent over August 2010 figures. North Tahoe casinos took in $2,758,894 in gaming profit compared to $3,404,132 during the same period last year.
