Heavy rain totals with Saturday's storm in the Sierra, more on the way

Since Friday morning, rain has pummeled many areas of the Sierra Nevada. As of 8:00 a.m. Sunday, South Lake Tahoe had received 2.54" of rain, with more on the way. By Monday morning, a trace of new snow could be seen on the South Shore.

Several warning remain in place for Lake Tahoe through Monday. Another round of gusty winds and heavy rain is headed to the Sierra. A wind advisory is in place until 8:00 p.m. Sunday with southwest winds 20-30 mph and gusts up to 55 mph. The ridge gusts could be up to 125 mph. Waves on Lake Tahoe will be 3-5 feet and boating and other water activity is not recommended.

Highway 89 near the Emerald Fire and Franktown Road near the Little Valley Fire remain closed as the burn scar areas will see heavy rains, and a flash flood warning is in effect until 6:00 a.m. Monday. The additional bands of heavy rain may exceed 1" in three hours, which could trigger debris flows and rock falls.

Rain aided in getting those fires under control. The Emerald Fire is now 90 percent contained after burning 176 acres. The Little Valley Fire remains at 3,400 acres and is now 20 percent contained.
