Smoke filling Lake Tahoe Basin from prescribed fire operations

· Drink lots of water, eat a balanced diet, and get adequate rest. Good health strengthens your immune system.
· Wearing paper masks will generally not protect your lungs from wildland fire smoke.
· Be diligent about taking medicines prescribed by your doctor if you have pre-existing respiratory problems.
· If, after following these guidelines, you still experience discomfort while breathing, consult your physician.
Prescribed fire operations in both the Eldorado National Forest and Tahoe National Forest Truckee Ranger District are sending smoke into the Lake Tahoe Basin Thursday.
If you have low tolerance for smoke, please take the following precautions to reduce your exposure.
· Stay indoors as much as possible especially seniors and children. Avoid physical exertion.
· Drink lots of water, eat a balanced diet, and get adequate rest. Good health strengthens your immune system.

Prescribed burns are planned for the South Shore on Monday, November 6, weather permitting. They will take place at the southern end of Christmas Valley and near Marshall Trail off Pioneer.
