South Lake Tahoe voters will be deciding the future of roads in the City when they determine the fate of Measure C on Tuesday, November 7, 2017.
Voters will decide if a one-half cent sales tax will be added in the town to provide approximately $2.5 million that will fix potholes and pave, repair, maintain local roads.
The following polling locations are established for the November 7, 2017 election:
Lake Tahoe Christian Fellowship, 3580 Blackwood
South Shore Christian Assembly 886 Glorene Avenue
Ballots can also be dropped off at the El Dorado County Elections Office at 3368 Lake Tahoe Blvd., in South Lake Tahoe.
Polls are open 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Absentee ballots can be dropped off and postmarked at post office by 5:00 p.m.
Measure C has been the center of debate, many thinking the City can find the money somewhere in their annual budget to fix roads. Proponents behind the measure like the fact that, by law, the funds raised can only be spent on roads and cannot be used for upcoming CalPERS payments that will amounts to millions annually.
Everyone agrees roads need to be fixed, just where the money will be found has yet to be determined.
Measure C was created to share the expense of road repair with those who shop and eat in South Lake Tahoe. For every $1,000 spent on taxable goods a year in the city, a person would pay $5 extra.
If Measure C is passed there will be a seven member Roads Management Authority as well as an independent citizen's oversight committee to oversee projects and expenses.
In a statement for the election, backers of Measure C include long time locals Roberta Mason, Adele Lucas, Tyler Cannon and Jerry Bindel. Owner of Tahoe Mountain Lab David Orr also signed the official letter of support.
In the official statement against Measure C, John Cefalu, Jonnie Crawford, Bruce Grego, Peggy Bourland and Brady Hodge all signed the document. They too are long time locals.
