South Tahoe High girls soccer team headed to state playoffs

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Tahoe High girls varsity soccer team took care of their opponents all season long and look for more of the same this weekend as they head to the 2018 NIAA 3A State Girls Soccer playoffs.

Sporting an overall 23-2 record and a league record of 17-1, the Vikings beat Truckee 2-1 Saturday in the 3A Northern Championship to take their #1 seed from the north down to Las Vegas.

On Friday, November 9, the first round of the state tournament has South Tahoe against the #2 seed from the south, Western High School. They take the field at 6:00 p.m. The #2 seed from the north, Truckee, will face the #1 seed from the south, Pahrump Valley. Their game time is also at 6:00 p.m.

Varsity Coach Mark Salmon credits the cohesion of the team for their success.

"We have a very good bond with one another and that shows on the field," said Salmon. "These kids committed to the 35 workouts held this summer and the vast majority attended all. That dedication combined with continuity has been successful and we've been able to check all the boxes and it all came together."

Salmon says the team's dedication to the sport is evident through their playing both competitive club soccer as well as playing for the high school.

The 2018 team is a young team and can lead to an even stronger team next year according to Salmon. Only four from this current team will be graduating in 2019 and another four in 2020 with a large portion of the team made up of current freshmen and sophomores.

The team heads to Las Vegas on Thursday morning.
