First wave of snow in Lake Tahoe passes, more due Monday

Residents are waking up to a fresh layer of snow in South Lake Tahoe Monday morning, with more snow due later in the day.

Just over an inch of fresh snow fell at lake level.

As of 8:30 a.m., chain controls were lifted over Echo Summit but remain on I-80, Hwy 88 at Ham's Station,

The National Weather Service forecast says to expect more snow showers Monday morning, mainly after 10 a.m. There is even a chance for some thunder.

Expect a high near 34 with winds from the west 15mph to 21 mph and gusts as high as 36 mph. Daytime snow accumulation is 1" to 2", with another 2" to 4" Monday night. Snow showers until 10 p.m. with snow after that. Low near 22.

Lingering snow showers are expected Tuesday morning before 10 a.m. The day will start off cloudy then becoming mostly sunny by afternoon. It will be a blustery day with a high near 28 and winds from the north/northeast 18 mph to 24 mph and gusts up to 41 mph. Under an inch of snow is forecast.
