Minden man dies in Pine Nut mountains ATV accident

A 19-year-old Minden man died Thursday after the ATV vehicle he was driving was struck head-on by a Ford F-150 truck. The accident happened just before 9:30 a.m. on Sunrise Pass Road near Juniper Valley behind the Johnson Lane subdivision in the Pinenut Mountains.
Douglas County Sheriff's Office deputies say the dune buggy, driven by Daniel Palmer, was speeding west on a dirt road when it slid and drifted head on into the path of an oncoming older Ford F-150.
Palmer died on scene, while a passenger who was with him was flown by Carefight to Renown Regional Medical Center with serious injuries, said Douglas County Sheriff's Sgt. Pat Brooks.

The driver and passenger inside the F-150 were not hurt. The Nevada Highway Patrol is also investigating the accident.

Today at 0923 hours, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and the East Fork Fire and Paramedic District responded to a report of a traffic incident involving an older Ford F-150 and a dune buggy. The incident occurred on Sunrise Pass road near Juniper Valley road which located behind the Johnson Lane Subdivision in the Pinenut Mountains.

The initial report is the Ford was traveling eastbound on the dirt road and the dune buggy was travelling westbound at a high rate of speed. The dune buggy began sliding on the packed dirt surface and drifted into the path of the F-150 hitting head on.

The driver of the dune buggy was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger of the dune buggy was Careflighted to Renown Hospital with serious injuries. The driver and passengers of the F-150 were not injured nor transported at this time.

The families of the victim, listed as 19 year old Daniel Palmer from Minden, Nv, have been notified.

The Nevada Highway Patrol has responded to the incident to assist with the investigation. The investigation is ongoing.
