Lake Tahoe Boys and Girls Club helping out Sierra House families

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - One hundred percent of the operations of Sierra House Elementary have now moved over to the Al Tahoe school site (where the Lake Tahoe Boys and Girls Club is also housed) until possibly mid-February. Due to the size a split schedule is in place to accommodate the students, with some students only attending in the morning, others only in the afternoon.

The Boys and Girls Club (Club) is assisting parents with that split schedule and in partnership with Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) will be offering free programs and activities during the school day.

“If you child is in K-2nd and finishes at 1:00 p.m., they are welcome to stay on at the Club (same building as school) until 4:00 p.m. and then can be picked up by parents or take the bus home. If your child is in 3rd-5th, you are welcome to drop them off at 9:00 a.m. and Club staff will provide fun activities and enhancement programs until they start school at noon," explained Ashley Hall, Club program director.

Sierra House parents must pick up their students from Al Tahoe between 3:45 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. at the latest unless members of the Club.

The after-school program is business as usual for all Club members, no matter what school they attend, and Sierra House students who are also members of the Club are welcome to stay on site and participate in the normal after-school programs until they close at 6:30 p.m. The after-school Club program is not available to non-member students.

“It has definitely made our building and lives a lot busier,” laughed the Club's Executive Director Jude Wood, “We are happy to help out. LTUSD has hugely supported the Club over the years and we are pleased to return the favor.”

If Sierra House parents wish to make use of the Club in non-school time hours between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. they are to inform the school immediately so staffing and logistics can be planned. Sierra House has a new phone number for the duration of their time at Al Tahoe – 530.318.1517.

Unfortunately, at this time the Club is still on a wait list for the after-school (after 4:00 p.m.) but Sierra House parents who are not already Club members can take paperwork and join the wait list.

“With one school, four pre-schools and a Club all in the same building, the parking lot is going to be exceptionally busy with buses and parents, and to maintain the season of goodwill, our parking lot should be avoided during that time,” said Jude.
