Skiers still waiting for the Big Storm

Even though Mother Nature has been blessing the state of California with plenty of rain, the Sierra Nevada are still in need of a big snow storm to start their way out the drought.

Rain and snow mix in South Lake Tahoe all day Friday has yet to bring in measurable snowfall but snow is still expected through Saturday so there is still a chance.

Heavenly Ski Resort reported 2" of new snow in the last week before the latest moisture hit Friday. Before then the resort's base was listed as 22". Kirkwood reported 17" of new snow this week with an 81" base. Sierra at Tahoe already had their Friday storm totals as of midnight listed as 8" of new snowfall.

Once this latest wet weather moves through on Saturday a high pressure system takes over and 50 degree days will greet Santa Claus. At this point the extended forecast doesn't show snow or rain until January 4, 2015.
