Man sought after trying to abduct a woman in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Sun, 10/11/2015 - 7:33pmA man is being sought in South Lake Tahoe after an attempted abduction in the Stateline area on Saturday, October 10.
At 9:40 a.m., officers from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department responded to the area of Park and Cedar Avenues after getting a call about a suspicious man who approached a woman, telling her he'd shoot if she didn't go with him. He simulated a gun inside the pocket of his grey hooded sweatshirt.
The scared woman ran away and the suspect fled the area prior to the arrival of police.
As of Sunday evening, the only description of the male suspect is:

Lodge at Edgewood Tahoe breaks ground on South Shore

Rain brought the ceremony indoors, but spirits weren't dampened as people speaking at the ceremony highlighted the major impacts the new project on the state line will make on South Shore's economic and community revitalization, as well as important environmental and recreational enhancements in the area.

The newest multi-use trail connecting Lake Tahoe Blvd and Highway 50 will officially open with a dedication ceremony at 3 p.m. on October 14.
District Five County Supervisor Sue Novasel, the communities of South Lake Tahoe and Meyers and the Transportation Division of the County of El Dorado's Community Development Agency invite all interested parties to a ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the opening of the final connection of the Class 1 bicycle and multi-use path network connecting the communities of Meyers and South Lake Tahoe.

Plan unveiled for old Factory Stores at the Y location

In January, 2015, The Sutter Capital Group of Sacramento announced they had purchased the property after it fell into bankruptcy.

Season wraps up for inaugural cross country night bike races
Submitted by paula on Mon, 09/21/2015 - 3:42pmThe inaugural Tahoe Games Bike Night Series, presented by On Course Events, Tahoe Center for Orthopedics and the Lake Tahoe Golf Course will conclude with the final races of the season on Saturday, September 26.
These family-friendly x-country night bike races feature a custom illuminated course that runs through the Lake Tahoe Golf Course, over fairways, into the rough, through sand traps and over bridges with the occasional cart path. The course is approximately 3 miles per lap, with most classes riding 2 laps.

On Thursday, September 10, a man who lives in the 2400 block of William Avenue called police to report his car stolen. When police arrived, they found out the man had lent the car to someone who hadn't returned it.
The following day, a white Ford F250 with a rack was reported stolen in the 1000 block of William. It has not been recovered and there are no suspects. The Nevada license plate number is NRC917.
Three cars were stolen on Saturday, September 12.
High tech anti-theft dots to help South Lake Tahoe Police
Submitted by paula on Wed, 09/16/2015 - 9:12pmWith an increase in the number of bicycle thefts and other property crimes in South Lake Tahoe, a new high tech device to help the fight on crime is now being introduced by the police department.
The new technology is called Anti-Theft Dots. This DNA for property crime will assist the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) in their efforts to combat theft in the community. Property crime is the number one crime statistic in the nation according to the Department of Justice.
Public's help sought in South Shore bicycle theft

At approximately 7:50 p.m. on the August 30, 2015, deputies took a report of a stolen 2014 GIANT Mountain bicycle. The bike is black in color and has the word "GIANT" in white lettering.

1,800 cyclists to bike around the lake in Sunday's Tour de Tahoe

More than 1,800 riders are expected to take on the 4,000 feet of climbing involved in the ride which continues to gain in popularity. South Lake Tahoe teen airlifted to Renown after bicycle accident
Submitted by paula on Tue, 08/11/2015 - 6:02pmAn 18-year-old male was airlifted to Renown Medical Center on Tuesday afternoon after being hit by a car on Ski Run Blvd.
The teen, who had recently moved to South Lake Tahoe, was riding his bike southbound near Spruce Drive just before 4 p.m. when he made a left hand turn into the path of a northbound car driven by a South Lake Tahoe woman.
The unidentified cyclist hit the front of the car on the driver's side. He was airlifted with undisclosed injuries.
The driver of the car was uninjured and is cooperating with police.

Alex Fowler of Elite Trax, Inc has been in Rio de Janeiro building the track for the 2016 Summer Olympics, but he is much happier being in South Lake Tahoe creating what bicycle enthusiasts have been envisioning for year.

Congress Introduces Lake Tahoe Restoration Act

Sponsored by U.S. Senator Dean Heller (R-Nevada) along with Harry Reid (D-Nevada), Dianne Feinstein (D-California), and Barbara Boxer (D-California), the Lake Tahoe Restoration Act would authorize up to $415 million in federal funding over 10 years to help continue critical environmental restoration work at Lake Tahoe.

Construction on first phase of new trail begins on Monday

The new bike and pedestrian trail extends about a half of a mile between Herbert Avenue and Glenwood Way and is scheduled to be completed by August.

Eastbound motorists can also expect the right shoulder closed at the same location from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for trenching.
Cycling celebrated in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Sat, 06/20/2015 - 10:53pmCycling in South Lake Tahoe was the focus of the second Annual Cycle Celebration on Saturday. Kids both young and old were at the Heavenly Village to participate in a Bike Parade, Bike Rodeo, Bike Tune-Up station and informational booths.
The celebration wrapped up the two-week long Tahoe Bike Challenge where hundreds of people got out of their cars and biked to school, work and for play.
During Saturday's activities, the Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition honored the Town of Truckee and Karen & Pete Fink for their contributions to cycling in the region.
Tahoe Bike Challenge wraps up with a Cycle Celebration

The 2nd annual Cycle Celebration will culminate the Tahoe Bike Challenge where 315 riders made 2,706 trips and covered 17,299 miles in the Lake Tahoe area on their bikes between June 1 and 14. All of those miles saved participants $3,845 in gasoline.
Bellamy Court at the back of Heavenly Village (by the parking garage) will be closed off for the celebration on Saturday, June 20 for a plethora of activities to celebrate biking in Lake Tahoe from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Bicycle and pedestrian safety a big concern in South Lake Tahoe

In the last six years, 12 people have died in South Lake Tahoe while cycling or walking. In that same time, 42 people were injured while riding bikes on the road while 37 pedestrians were hurt.

Sawmill Road to be closed for construction of 1.2 mile Class 1 bicycle path
Submitted by paula on Thu, 06/18/2015 - 6:57pmA portion of Sawmill Road will be closed this summer in order as El Dorado County completes a 1.2 mile, Class 1 bicycle and multi-use path that will connect the existing path to the road's intersection with Highway 50.
Work will be done by the County's Transportation Division beginning on June 29 and ending on August 21, 2015.
Motorists will need to use Lake Tahoe Boulevard to access the western section of Sawmill Road in lieu of the Highway 50 route during the closure.

City staff and locals help kick off the Tahoe Bike Challenge

Pearl Izumi at the Y hosted the "Ready, Set, Pedal" party with swag bags, food and special discounts. Riders gathered at the store and started on either a 5 mile or a 10 mile loop.

After several public forums, meetings and presentations, the council will be deciding to adopt the Tahoe Valley Area Plan, which is the vision for the area around the "Y" in South Lake Tahoe. The City starting working on the plan in January of 2014, after the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) adopted the Regional Plan update at the end of 2012.

Submitted by paula on Thu, 05/21/2015 - 11:21pmSouth Lake Tahoe can create a sustainable economy if we focus on "active tourism." This was the message relayed by the panel of speakers at Wednesday's Tahoe Talk series at Lake Tahoe Community College.
If the 15 page spread about Lake Tahoe in the May edition of Bike magazine is any indication, people know about the activity/recreation based tourism awaiting them in Tahoe, and they're about to come.
