New Goals Set For Lake Tahoe Bike Challenge

The 7th annual Tahoe Bike Challenge sets new goals for the 2012 event scheduled for June 4-15th. The Bike Challenge is a Tahoe Basin-wide campaign that challenges everyone to ride their bike to work, school and during play and errands in lieu of using the automobile.

World's Longest Bicycle Parade at Lake Tahoe

South Lake Tahoe made history on May 17, 2012. In honor of National Bike to Work Day the Slow Rollers organization have, unofficially, and more than likely made the Guinness Book Of World Records for holding the world's longest bicycle parade. There were 1,188 registered participants in the Spirit Bike Parade, and quite a few more in the actual parade itself. Click below to watch the video prepared by Fabulous Lake Tahoe's Jack Durst.

Nearly 1,200 cyclists, and probably a lot more, lined up Thursday in South Lake Tahoe in an attempt to break a Guinness Book of World Record of forming the longest single file line of bicycles. The South Lake Tahoe bicycle group Slow Rollers, which organized the event, reports it signed in 1,200 cyclists for the event and ran out of tickets to give out. Many more were believed to have joined in. A full tally of cyclists should be made available late Thursday. Check back here to find out the unofficial count.

Spirit Bike Parade of Nearly 1,200 Cyclists Rolls Though South Lake Tahoe to Break World Record

More than a thousand cyclists peddled their way through South Lake Tahoe on a breezy Thursday afternoon to break a Guinness Book of World Record by forming the longest single file line of bicycles.
Organizers said nearly 1,200 bicyclists had signed in by the 4 p.m. start time. Many cyclists were clad in costumes and face paint, all in the spirit of fun. The South Lake Tahoe bicycle group Slow Rollers has sponsored the second annual Spirit Bike Parade Thursday and its attempt to break the world record by forming the longest single line of bicycles. The record is held by the City of Davis of 916 bicycles. With nearly 1,200 cyclists on board Thursday, it looked promising that the record would be broken, said Richard Cutright, one of several event coordinators.

Open house to present Incline to Sand Harbor transit service

The Tahoe Transportation District will host an Open House forum on Wed., May 16, to discuss the SR Highway 28 corridor safety and congestion issues. The forum will introduce the East Shore Express, a proposed shuttle from Incline Village to Sand Harbor Beach State Recreation Area this summer as well as updates on the North Demonstration Bikeway, a 3-mile off-road path between Incline Village and Sand Harbor.

Lake Tahoe cyclists look to break world record today

Today is the day: South Lake Tahoe bicycle group Slow Rollers is asking the community to come out to its second annual Spirit Bike Parade today and an attempt to break the Guinness Book of World Records by forming the longest single line of bicycles. To beat the record, now held by the city of Davis of 916 bicycles, South Lake Tahoe will have to produce 917 bicycles or more. The event begins at 4 p.m. with a start up at the old Miller's Outpost, South Shore Bikes, 955 Emerald Bay Road. Get there early to register.

The proposed project would improve the recreation experience for residents and visitors to the Fallen Leaf Lake area, while protecting the natural, cultural, and historic resources of the area.

Livestrong, American Century give $100,000 to South Lake Tahoe area nonprofits

The holiday arrived early for 27 South Lake Tahoe non-profit organizations Thursday, Dec. 8, as $100,000 in charitable contributions was distributed on behalf of LIVESTRONG® and the American Century Championship by the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority.

“We’re fortunate to have the support from LIVESTRONG, NBC Sports and American Century Investments to assist to the local community,” said Carol Chaplin, executive director of the LTVA in a news release. “In addition to an outstanding event which attracts visitors, our 22-year partnership also helps local groups in need.”

Nevada Urges Cyclists to take Statewide Bicycle Plan Survey

The Nevada Department of Transportation is developing a Statewide Bicycle Plan for the state highway system in Nevada. The project is to focus on policies, programs, legislation and infrastructure that increase safe bicycling in rural communities in Nevada. The intent of the survey is to learn more about people’s preferences for bicycling in Nevada. Responses are being accepted through Tuesday, Dec. 6. Go here to take the survey.

Settlement reached in Tahoe pier dispute

UPDATED 5:19PM: Environmental regulators and a Lake Tahoe property owner who has hosted events for the League to Save Lake Tahoe have settled a dispute over environmental rule violations that stretch back to 2008.
Tamara Fritz and the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency agreed to terms this week resolving violations between April 2008 and March 2011. Go here for more.
