El Dorado authorities arrest Cameron Park man after woman found dead

Todd Alan Winkler, 45, was arrested Monday night and is being held in El Dorado County Jail without bond for reasons related to the homicide, said Lt. Bryan Golmitz.

Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Train with the California National Guard in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by admin on Thu, 02/23/2012 - 10:36amOn Sunday, February 12, 2012, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Team hosted a joint training with the 1-168th Medevac Wing of the California National Guard and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team. Training was conducted in and around Emerald Bay State Park. The 1-168th Medevac Wing, based at Mather Army Air Field Base near Sacramento, brought two Blackhawk helicopters equipped for search and rescue operations with hoists as well as their crew of Chiefs and Medics.

The Basic Speed Law Still Exists on US Highway 50

Based upon the latest Caltrans traffic and engineering study, the speed limit will increase by 5 mph from what is currently posted. However, until the new speed limit signs are posted along US Highway 50, the existing speed limit signs are currently not enforceable, per se. While we are in this transition, we strongly encourage our residents and visitors to continue following the currently posted speed limit signs.

More than 50 residents, business owners and families showed up to question the wisdom of the proposal and the survey results themselves. However, the results of the meeting indicate that Caltrans will proceed with the changes and the new speeds posted within two months.
Douglas authorities identify Gardnerville woman found dead of gunshot wound; investigation is 'ongoing'

Sgt. Jim Halsey of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office said investigation is "ongoing" and "no additional details can be released at this time" regarding the woman's death, reported early Sunday morning, Feb. 19.
Lake Tahoe planning agency announces 2011 Best in The Basin award winners

According to Monica Sciuto, Community Health Needs Assessment Lead Coordinator and Director of Public Relations at Barton Health, “For years, healthcare has been focused on treating individuals. If we are going to create a healthcare system that is right for our area, we need to broaden that focus to the entire community. This project will help us accomplish that.”

Rick David Oliver, 47, of Yuba County, Calif., was captured by Douglas County Sheriff's authorities and the FBI on Friday afternoon after he was located in the 1100 block of Linda Anne Court in the east valley area of Gardnerville, said Douglas County Undersheriff Paul Howell.
The law agencies learned that Oliver was at the location, recently having fled California to avoid sentencing and capture from law enforcement, Howell said.

Douglas County authorities seek help in Minden minimart robbery

The armed robbery happened at about 8:45 p.m., with the suspect, wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, dark mask and gloves, getting inside a gray four-door sedan with dark-tinted windows, possibly and Audi or a Volkswagon Jetta. It is believed a second person was in the vehicle and served as the driver, said Douglas County Sgt. Jim Halsey. The clerk was unhurt.

Gaming win in January up for Tahoe, statewide

For the fiscal year, the state is up 1.24 percent over the prior year.
South Lake Tahoe say its gaming win jump 6 percent in January and 6.63 percent for the fiscal year, despite the lack of snow to draw in skiers to the area.
The Carson Valley area that includes Carson City was up almost 5 percent. For the fiscal year, the area is still down 1.5 percent.
