Couple arrested after man stabbed during domestic dispute

Douglas County Sheriff's Office deputies were called out to the Sunridge area of Douglas County on Monday night at 5:55 p.m., and once there found a man who had been stabbed in the hand.

Jacob Bernard, 26, was combative with East For Fire personnel and DCSO deputies as they attempted to render aide. Bernard was also uncooperative, and during the investigation, kicked a deputy. The deputy was not injured.

Douglas County Sheriffs looking for suspect in Stateline car burglary

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public's assistance in identifying a person of interest in a vehicle burglary in a parking lot at Harvey's Casino.

Between 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. on March 24 a locked vehicle was burglarized. The suspect took numerous credit cards and personal items. Video surveillance captured an alleged suspect exiting a lcoal business where he attempted to use one of the stolen credit cards.

Domestic violence situation turns into kidnapping in Douglas County

A 32-year-old Joshua Albericci of Gardnerville has been arrested on multiple charges stemming from his alledged assault and kidnapping of his 29-year-old wife.

Deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office responded to the report of a domestic dispute in the Gardnerville Ranchos area of the county on April 27, 2016 at 10:45 a.m. When they arrived at the home in the 800 block of Short Court, they learned that the victim had fled to a neighbor's home after being physically assaulted by her husband.

Burglary suspects arrested after stolen guns found in car

Deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) responded to a burglary in progress call in the 1300 block of Cedar Creek Circle in the Gardnerville Ranchos at 3:20 a.m. on April 8.

A homeowner had found an unknown male in his garage, claiming a friend of his was in need of medical attention.

DCSO said the male matched the description of a similar incident in the neighborhood, one where the suspect(s) weren't able to get into the garage or home.

DCSO: Veterinarian found dead in Carson City was sole suspect in lewdness investigation

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has released information regarding the death of Carson Valley veterinarian Lance Gorrindo earlier this week:

“At the time of Lance Gorrindo’s death he was the sole suspect being sought by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office in connection to an active Lewdness with a Minor investigation. The identity of the victim is confidential by law and not subject to disclosure.”

Formal charges had not been filed against Gorrindo prior to his death, according to Carson Valley Times.

Douglas County man jailed for domestic battery and firing gun inside home

A 57-year-old Douglas County man was arrested early Wednesday on suspicion of domestic battery and shooting multiple rounds from a firearm inside his home.

Deputies from the Douglas County Sheriffs Office responded to a call of domestic dispute with shots fired at the 3400 block of Tourmaline, south of Carson City at 4:00 a.m. on April 6. When they arrived they heard additional gun fire coming from the residence.

Soon after, Daniel Vanhooser came out of the home and was taken into custody without incident.

Four arrested after high speed chase through Douglas County and South Lake Tahoe crime

2:45 p.m. 2/28/16 update:

Two different high speed chases through the Carson Valley and up Kingsbury Grade resulted in the arrest of two men and two women on Saturday, February 27, 2017.

At 3:10 p.m., a trooper from the Nevada Highway Patrol spotted a silver Mercedes-Benz with California plates going down U.S. 50 (Spooner Summit) at 85 mph. The driver failed to pull over for the trooper, instead turning South on Highway 395 towards Minden, Nev., at speeds in excess of 100 mph.

DCSO Explorer Scouts volunteer at Pebble Beach golf tournament

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Explorers just finished a week-long detail in Pebble Beach, California working the AT & T Pebble Beach Pro-Am Golf Tournament to earn money for their POST.

Thirteen DCSO Explorers handled pedestrian control, traffic control and security details in and around the famous 17 mile drive in Pebble Beach. They saw golf professionals like Phil Mickelson and Vijay Singh as well as amateurs like Justin Timberlake, Mark Wahlberg, Carson Daly and Larry The Cable Guy.

Douglas County deputies looking for perfume thieves

Douglas County Sheriff's officers are asking for the public's help in locating two suspects in a theft at the Ulta Beauty store in Carson City. Thee investigation into the November 29 theft has not revealed any leads.

At approximately 11:30 a.m. on that Sunday, a man and woman walked into the cosmetics store located at 911 Topsy Lane and allegedly stole a large quantity of men's fragrance.

Several reports of mail theft in Douglas County

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has received several reports of stolen mail from mailboxes in the Topaz Ranch Estates and Gardnerville Ranchos areas.

"Citizens should attempt to collect the mail as soon as possible after the mail delivery has been made or consider a lockable mail box," said DCSO Sgt. Pat Brooks. "Additionally, outgoing mail should be placed in a secured US Postal mailbox if possible."

With the upcoming holidays, packages and items being delivered to the door step should be collected as soon as possible or arrangements for another delivery location should be made.

Woman hospitalized, Stateline man arrested for assault with a deadly weapon

A Stateline man was arrested on Monday following a domestic dispute which sent a woman to the hospital with severe injuries, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

Christopher Drake Rogers, 43, was arrested on charges of battery with a deadly weapon after DSCO officers responded to a call of an injured woman on Tramway Drive in the Upper Kingsbury neighborhood on November 16.

New Douglas County Deputy Sheriff sworn in

Sheriff Ron Pierini announced his department's newest deputy Monday. Derek Short was sworn in as a Douglas County Deputy Sheriff during a ceremony at their office in Minden, Nev.

Derek Short graduated from Southern Oregon University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration and a minor in Criminal Justice. He will start his career with DCSO in the Jail Division.

DCSO looking for man who stole 50" television

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a person of interest in a theft at the Walmart on Topsy Lane.

On October 12, 2015 at approximately 3:25 a.m., the suspect entered Walmart and stole a 50” TV and exited through the emergency exit near the sporting goods section of the store.

Once outside, the suspect loaded the television in what appears to be a white or silver Chevy Lumina.

Trio arrested in Carson Valley after theft at Walmart

Deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) arrested three people on October 29 on various charges of theft and possession of drug paraphernalia.

23-year-old Robert Michael Dean, 24-year-old Dylan Andrew Mitts and 22-year-old Elizabeth Kathrine Spandau were arrested after an investigation into a theft at the Wal-Mart on Grant Way in Gardnerville, Nev.

Reward offered in tablet theft at Best Buy in Douglas County

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a person of interest in a theft at the Best Buy Store on Topsy Lane on Sunday, September 27.

A man was videotaped as he was kneeling down in an aisle next to some electronic tablets at approximately 7:08 p.m. He opened a box containing a tablet and its accessories, put them in his pants pocket, and exited the store without paying for the items.

Son and mother both dead after domestic dispute at Minden home

8 a.m. update 10/17/15: The shooter involved in Tuesday's domestic dispute has died, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) announced this morning.

A preliminary report shows that 27-year-old Jarek Kozlowski died of respiratory failure at the hospital October 16 at 7:40 p.m. DSCO said the report shows Kozlowski did not as a result of injuries sustained in the shooting incident.

Sheriff looking for stolen credit card suspect

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public's help in identifying a person of interest in an unlawful use of a credit card at the Walmart located on Grant Ave in Gardnerville, Nev.

On August 21, 2015, the suspect used the victim’s credit card at numerous locations in both South Lake Tahoe, Calif. and Gardnerville, Nev.

The victim notified their credit card companies about their stolen credit cards and found out about the fraudulent use.

A suspect's photo has been released by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) i hopes someone can help identity a suspect who used a credit card that didn't belong to him.

The unauthorized use occurred on August 8, 2015 at 3:30 a.m. at the Walmart in Gardnerville, NV off of Grant Avenue. The victim had been notified by her credit card company that same day, saying there was some unusual activity on the credit card. After checking into the charges she realized her card was missing.

Gardnerville business owners facing felony drug charges

Sheriff asks for public's help in identifying person of interest in theft

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a person of interest in a theft at the Big 5 Store located at 1770 US Hwy 395, Minden, NV.

On August 5, 2015 at approximately 4:05 pm, the suspect, along with 6 juveniles entered the store. The adult male purchased a candy bar while the juveniles were in the football section of the store. As the adult was paying for the candy bar, the juveniles removed products from their packaging and hid the merchandise on their person before walking out of the store without paying.

Gardnerville shooting leaves man with life threatening injuries

12:00 p.m. update 8/19:

More details are now known about Tuesday night's shooting in Gardnerville. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) has learned that earlier in the evening, at 8:20 p.m., there was a fight at the Ann Way residence between four individuals. During that altercation, the person of interest in the shooting, 56-year-old John Stalcup, was a victim of a battery.

When Deputies arrived on scene, the suspect in the battery had fled the scene.

Douglas County Sheriff looking for suspect in another Ulta Beauty theft

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying this person of interest in a theft that occurred at Ulta Beauty at 911 Topsy Lane in Douglas County.

On July 11, 2015 at approximately 1:00 pm, a female suspect was seen removing merchandise from the shelves and tampering with the wrappers.

She is believed to be white, approximately 5'4", with dark hair in a bun. The female suspect has a tattoo on her face next to her left eye and on her arms.

Douglas County Sheriff seeks public's help in locating missing teen

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in locating a 15-year-old runaway.

Savannah Stewart reportedly ran away on July 29, 2015 and hasn't been seen since.

It is unknown where she could be and the investigation has stalled.

Reward offered in $3,762 theft at Ulta Beauty in Douglas County

A reward has been offered to anyone with information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of three suspects in the theft of $3,792 in merchandise from the Ulta Store in the Carson Valley.

On July 3, 2015, at approximately 7:30 p.m., three Hispanic females (late teens to early twenties) entered the store with what appeared to be empty handbags. The suspects walk directly to the shelves and quickly removed approximately $3,762.00 worth of make-up. The suspects concealed the make-up in the handbags and exited the store, making no attempt to pay for the merchandise.

Graffiti vandals tag signage on bike trail through Rabe Meadow

Vandals were busy this week in Rabe Meadow on the South Shore, defacing the new bike trail railings and signage throughout the historic meadow.

Deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) are working on the case, saying they see this type of tagging every summer. Surveillance cameras have lead to the arrest of perpetrators on several other cases and they hope that leads will come in on this case as well.

Suspect sought in Douglas County theft

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a person of interest in a theft at the Smith’s Grocery Store in Gardnerville, NV and an unlawful use of a credit card at the Shell Gas Station in Minden, NV.

A woman was shopping at Smith's on June 21 at approximately 5:00 p.m. when she turned away from her cart that contained her purse. A man bumped into her and walked away. A short time later the woman noticed her wallet was missing from her purse.

Forty Carson Valley kids spend two weeks in G.R.E.A.T. program

Forty 7th grade students just finished the two week long 2015 Summer G.R.E.A.T. Program sponsored by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO).

Twenty students from Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School and 20 from Carson Valley Middle School learned leadership, goal setting, and decision making skills in the program. They had the opportunity to participate in the Heavenly Resort Epic mountain ropes course, kayaked Lake Tahoe and completed community service by cleaning up Zephyr Cove Beach.

Briefcase left at Carson Valley Starbucks brings out bomb squad

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) responded to a call of a suspicious package left against the wall near the entrance of Starbucks, located at 1734, U.S. Highway 395 in Minden, NV.

Due to the heightened terrorist alert across the country over the holiday weekend, DCSO took precautions and had called in their Bomb Squad to evaluate the briefcase. It was determined that it was a laptop computer inside and not an explosive device.

Fort Bragg woman drowns at Topaz Lake

Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) is investigating the drowning at Topaz Lake Wednesday of 36-year-old Janneke Strong from Ft. Bragg, CA.

DCSO responded to a call of a reported drowning at 1:48 p.m. on June 17. A witness reported seeing a person lying face down in approximately four feet of water along the North Shore of the lake which is located in Douglas County on Hwy 395.

East Fork Fire Paramedics arrived on scene and began advanced life saving efforts to Strong who was transported to the Carson Valley Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased at 3:04 p.m.

Suspect sought in Gardnerville Pizza Hut robbery

An armed suspect robbed the Pizza Hut in Gardnerville at gunpoint on March 23, asking the clerk for all the money from the cash register.

At 8:15 p.m., the unknown man entered the restaurant located at 1362 Hwy 395 in Gardnerville, NV. After getting the money he left the store on foot, out of view.

An undisclosed amount of money was taken.

The suspect is described as 5'10 or 5'11 inches tall, medium build, wearing dark sunglasses, a dark gray or black pullover hoodie, a navy blue neckerchief and a solid white neckerchief.

Douglas County Sheriff's Office looking for Ulta burglary suspects

On March 5, a theft occurred at the Ulta store in Carson City and the Douglas County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in identifying the suspects.

At 5:14 p.m., a male and female entered the store located at 911 Topsy Lane. They began looking at perfume, and while the female began a conversation with the employees at the front counter the male exited he store with several fragrance packs. The female suspect exited the store shortly after.

Both suspects were seen leaving the parking lot in a red 4-door sedan.

Three arrested in South Lake Tahoe after $30,000 robbery

Douglas Country Sheriff's Deputies (DCSO) and officers from the South Lake Tahoe and Roseville Police Departments contacted several Stateline, NV residents as part of a follow up investigation after a robbery in Roseville on Saturday.

Douglas County man arrested in child abuse case; Infant dies

1/10/15 11:45 a.m. update - The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a child abuse case involving a 2 month old infant.

On January 10, 2015 at 12:48 a.m., the two month old infant was taken off life support and died. The cause of death is pending autopsy.

Suspect Trent Getty was located in Sacramento, California at a Greyhound Bus Depot and was taken into custody by the Sacramento Police Department. Suspect Getty is in custody in the Sacramento County Jail and is awaiting extradition back to Douglas County, Nevada.

Douglas County Deputies arrest pair for string of auto burglaries

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office have two Chico, California residents in custody after they were arrested as suspects in a series of vehicle burglaries.

Lisa Vantine and Jacob Donovan were arrested on Thursday, October 16 in the Auto Zone parking lot in Gardnerville as they were pulled over while driving a tan Toyota with stolen license plates out of California.

DCSO seeks public's help in finding missing runaway teen

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in locating a 16 year-old runaway juvenile, Mia Swenson. Mia was last seen on Friday, October 3, 2014.

Her family says that Mia has been suffering recently from depression, and they are concerned for her well-being. Mia lives in the Carson Valley, however she has ties to South Lake Tahoe and may also have possibly traveled to the Sacramento or Reno areas.

Douglas County Sheriffs looking for man who skipped drug court

A 19 year old man is being sought by the Douglas County Sheriff's Department. Seth Daniel Rogers is wanted for failing to appear in drug court and for a warrant for traffic offenses.

DCSO is asking for the public's help in locating Rogers. He is described as having green eyes, being 5'10" tall and weighing 155 lbs.

Pedestrian struck and killed by pickup truck and DCSO patrol cars on Highway 395

A pedestrian walking on Highway 395 near Spring Valley Drive was killed after being struck by multiple vehicles Sunday night.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Department, the victim was standing in the southbound lane at 10:45 p.m. when he was hit by a pickup truck heading south. After being struck, the male was thrown into the northbound travel lane of US 395. As the pickup truck driver pulled over, two Douglas County Sheriff's patrol cars were heading north and did not see the man. Both cars struck the man.

Minden business owner arrested on fraud charges

Helen Welch, operator of the "Little Psychic Shop" in Minden, was arrested Wednesday by Douglas County Sheriff's officers on the felony charge of attempting to obtain money under false pretenses.

An undercover investigation by the DCSO was initiated after they received complaints of fraud by Welch's customers. The business is located at 1578 Hwy 395.

Anyone who believes they may have been the victim of fraudulent activity involving Helen Welch is encouraged to call the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Investigation Division at 775-782-9905 to make a report.

Douglas County Sheriff's Office seeks public's help in locating Anthony Robert Diaz

7/23/14 update: After a manhunt lasting several hours, Douglas County Sheriff’s Deputies located Anthony Robert Diaz on July 22, 2014 at approximately 11 p.m. walking near Pine Nut Road in Gardnerville. Diaz’ 12 year old son was with him, and was safely recovered and returned to his mother. Diaz was arrested for ex-felon possession of a firearm, and child endangerment. Diaz remains in custody in the Douglas County Jail in Minden, and his bail has been set at $50k.

Nevada Side of South Lake Tahoe Sees Orderly Crowds, Early Morning Stabbing

Overall, the 4th of July was busy but things went pretty well according to Douglas County Sheriff Ron Pierini. "A lot of people enjoyed the 4th in Lake Tahoe," he said. "We scheduled a lot of deputies to handle the extra crowds and didn't see a lot of problems. We managed well and were prepared."

Nevada Beach has been an alcohol free beach for the holiday since the 1990s which is something Sheriff Pierini said needed to be done. "Having that ordinance made a big difference," he said.

DUI Checkpoints in South Lake Tahoe on Friday and Saturday

The California Highway Patrol, Nevada Highway Patrol and Douglas County Sheriff's Office will be joining forces over the holiday weekend in South Lake Tahoe by conducting sobriety, car safety and driver's license checkpoints on both sides of the state line.

The California Highway Patrol will have their checkpoint in Meyers on Saturday, July 5 on U.S. Highway 50 between Pioneer Trail and State Route 89. It will be staffed by officers who are trained in the detection of alcohol and/or drug impaired drivers.

Fire Investigators Say Arsonist Started Four Brush Fires Along Lake Tahoe Hiking Trails

Lake Tahoe fire officials, the U.S. Forest Service and Douglas County authorities are investigating a number of intentionally set brush fires lit near four hiking trails in the Stateline and Zephyr Cove areas.

In the past two weeks, four separate small brush fires have been started off of hiking trails, said Douglas County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Pat Brooks. Because of the nature of the fires, they are believed to have been started by the same person or persons, Brooks added.
