Low Turnout for Loop Road Project Meeting
Submitted by newsroom on Fri, 07/26/2013 - 7:41amVery few community members turned out for the US 50/South Shore Community Revitalization Project meeting held at Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel on Thursday night. Invitations were mailed and/or hand delivered to all residents in the proposed project area so they’d be able to better understand the process of relocation and financial reimbursement should the Revitalization Project be approved. Since many of those invited speak Spanish and Tagalog, interpreters were on hand to assist with translations, but no one in attendance needed their services.

Douglas County looks at new environmental plan for Lake Tahoe

The Douglas County Area Plan is the first to be proposed since the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency adopted the Regional Plan Update in December 2012.

TRPA announces 2012 Best in the Basin Award winners

This is the 23rd year for the program that recognizes Lake Tahoe area projects for demonstrating exceptional planning, design, and compatibility with the Lake Tahoe environment. Local professionals in the fields of landscaping, planning, engineering, water quality, and resource management judged each category. A reception for all Best in Basin winners and judges will follow the awards ceremony.

Homewood lawsuit remanded back to TRPA on one issue
Submitted by Editor on Mon, 01/07/2013 - 7:28pmOn the question of whether the Homewood Mountain Ski Area Resort, a ski area on Lake Tahoe’s West Shore, can be revitalized, the U.S. District Court validated all of the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency’s environmental findings in the decision on the Sierra Club’s lawsuit challenging the project. The court remanded the case back to TRPA on one very limited issue concerning the adequacy of the economic analysis related to one of the alternatives studied, TRPA officials said.
Forest Service approves Upper Echo Lakes Fuels Reduction project
Submitted by Editor on Wed, 01/02/2013 - 4:10pmA tree thinning and fuels reduction project on about 100 acres in the Upper Echo Lakes area and portions of a roadless area could begin this year, according to a decision by the U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit.
The project would take up to six years to complete and includes the removal of trees up to 16 inches in diameter, which would be collected, put into piles and either burned or made available for firewood. There is a possibility of brief closures of areas adjacent to the Pacific Crest Trail, according to the Forest Service.

Mr. Long and RHAA teamed together on the El Dorado Beach project at Lakeview Commons that opened June 20. Lakeview Commons’ rejuvenated waterfront with terraced seating was designed to enhance the natural beauty of the area and now serves as a great gathering space for water sports, live music or just enjoying the beautiful scenery.

Three weeks away from hitting a target goal to produce his first solo CD, veteran South Lake Tahoe musician Jesse Kalin is inviting the community to special night gathering of music and friends at the Fresh Ketch, from 6 to 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012.

Edgewood Lake Tahoe resort project approved by TRPA board
Submitted by Editor on Thu, 08/23/2012 - 9:55pmLake Tahoe planning leaders gave their approval Thursday to a paradigm changing project at the South Shore, which would allow for a high-end resort complex at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course, the site of the American Century Championship.
The governing board of the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency unanimously approved the Edgewood Tahoe Lodge and Golf Course realignment project that will make way for the 154-room lodge. Construction could begin in 2014, according to the Tahoe Daily Tribune.

Data suggest climate change is bringing an increased risk of more severe forest fires, but warming temperatures may cause other complex ecosystem changes. Local agencies are already planning ways to mitigate and adapt, but making policy based on models that show global trends over the next century is not an easy task.
