TRPA and backcountry skiers working to address winter recreation access

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, El Dorado County, and members of Tahoe Backcountry Alliance announced today they are partnering to create a coalition of stakeholders to maintain and enhance public access for winter backcountry skiing and snowboarding.

“We’re optimistic about this opportunity to work together to get back some of the access that we have lost in the past, and work to enhance access in the future. Let’s together reclaim and preserve backcountry access in the Tahoe Basin,” said Mike Schwartz and Todd Offenbacher, of Tahoe Backcountry Alliance.

Homewood man faces charges of furnishing alcohol to minors

A man from Homewood, CA was arrested and cited on September 25, 2015 for allegedly furnishing alcoholic beverages to minors during the South Lake Tahoe Police Department's "Decoy Shoulder Tap Operation."

Mark Finlayson, 38, was approached by a minor under the direct supervision of a peace officer outside a store in the area of Emerald Bay Road and Lake Tahoe Blvd. The minor asked Finlayson to buy them alcohol, stating they were underage and couldn't purchase the alcohol by themselves.

Finlayson faces a minimum $1000 fine and 24 hours of community service.

11th Annual Mutt Strut Poker Run in South Lake Tahoe

The Animal Coalition of Tahoe’s 11th annual Mutt Strut Poker Run, a fun, family event where you can get a little exercise with your pooch, play poker, and maybe win some prizes is just a few days away!

The Mutt Strut will begin at the corner of Lake Tahoe Boulevard and Lakeview Avenue with registration from 11:30 a.m. to noon on Sunday September 27.

25th Annual Lake Tahoe Toy Run

It is time once again for traditional South Lake Tahoe kick-off of the holiday season over the last 24 years, the Tahoe Toy Run.

Motorcycles full of toys for local youth in need will make their 25th run down Highway 50, this year from the airport to Sonney's BBQ Shack on October 3 starting at 10 a.m.

Bikers will start lining up the airport, which is located at 1901 Airport Road in South Lake Tahoe, at 10 a.m. for a 12 p.m. departure.

They will then proceed down Highway 50/Emerald Bay Road on the way to the party at Sonney's at 787 Emerald Bay Road.

Meeting the aquatic invasive species challenge at Tahoe

Aquatic invasive species (AIS) are one of the most serious challenges facing Lake Tahoe. They continuously threaten to damage its unique environment and famed water clarity and degrade the world-class recreational experiences residents and millions of visitors enjoy each year.

Fortunately, Tahoe is a national leader in fighting AIS, with the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency and 40 public and private partners working to prevent, detect, and remove harmful infestations.

Rash of auto thefts in South Lake Tahoe

In just three days, five cars were reported stolen in South Lake Tahoe.

On Thursday, September 10, a man who lives in the 2400 block of William Avenue called police to report his car stolen. When police arrived, they found out the man had lent the car to someone who hadn't returned it.

The following day, a white Ford F250 with a rack was reported stolen in the 1000 block of William. It has not been recovered and there are no suspects. The Nevada license plate number is NRC917.

Three cars were stolen on Saturday, September 12.

Innovative transportation plans necessary for Lake Tahoe

Wildfire and invasive species weren't the only topics of this year's Tahoe Summit. With the theme "Connecting Lake Tahoe’s Environment and Economy Through Innovation and Transportation,” speakers at Monday's event also talked of the importance of improved roadways and access for alternative modes of transportation that will support the anticipated increase in numbers of visitors to Lake Tahoe.

Unique Lake Tahoe exhibit opens at Nevada Museum Of Art In Reno

The first major historical art survey of Lake Tahoe and the Sierra’s infamous Donner Pass takes an ambitious trip through two centuries, highlighting the roles of Native Americans and railroad barons and the tourists and scientists trying to halt the loss of clarity in the azure waters.

“Tahoe: A Visual History” opened Saturday at the Nevada Museum of Art, featuring more than 400 objects by 175 painters, photographers, architects, basket weavers and sculptors. Arranged chronologically for the most part, it combines culturally and historically significant creations with contemporary works.

An Evening of Contemporary Classical Music with Citywater

El Dorado County D.A. tries to solve cold cases via social media

Brynn Rainey was a Keno runner at the Sahara Tahoe in 1977 when her body was found on property near the old Stateline Stables where the Van Sickle Bi-State Park now resides. She lived at what was known as the Cookbook apartments, frequented the 7-11 store on Emerald Bay Road, took the bus to work and, on the last night she was seen alive, visited the Bitter Creek Saloon near the corner of Sandy Way and Takela Drive in South Lake Tahoe.

Electrofishing project helps both hungry and Lake Tahoe nearshore

Scientists have found a way to put some of the 51,000 pounds of harvested fish to good use at the same time they are ridding Lake Tahoe of invasive species.

In the first three years of a cooperative pilot program between the University of Nevada Reno and California Fish and Wildlife, unwanted fish have been donated to needy families.

Judge orders Runnels Automotive to remove vehicles

Long considered a nuisance in South Lake Tahoe, the abandoned cars being stored at Runnels Automotive in South Lake Tahoe must be removed following a ruling by El Dorado County Superior Court Judge Daniel Proud on Thursday.

The Judge issued an order granting the City of South Lake Tahoe’s application for abatement to remove the abandoned vehicles stored at the automotive shop located at 986 Emerald Bay Road, which is the corner of Highway 50 and Lake Tahoe Blvd commonly known as the "Y."

Free concert Sunday on lawn at Valhalla

Enjoy a Tahoe afternoon on the lawn at the historic Valhalla on Sunday, August 2 when the Sacramento band, Richie Lawrence and the Yolos perform.

Rain or shine, the concert will go on. If it rains, all will be moved indoors to the Boathouse Theater. This will be the last in Valhalla's FREE Concert on the Lawn series which is part of the Valhalla Art, Music & Theatre Festival.

The band is a mix of jazz, French folk and country, with original music.
