South Lake Tahoe drive-by shooting suspect arrested on multiple felony charges

The hunt is over for the suspect in the October 14 drive-by shooting in South Lake Tahoe that sent a 19-year-old man to the hospital.

Samuel Tovar, 43, was arrested after a high-risk search warrant was served at 816 San Francisco Avenue at 10 p.m. Friday, October 4. Inside they found Tovar, who had been avoiding law enforcement since the shooting.

Processed marijuana stolen during El Dorado County home invasion robbery

11/24/15 update: The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office arrested both Ross and Stone on warrants issued by El Dorado County. When contacted, both Ross and Stone were armed with loaded firearms. They were taken into custody without incident and some of the stolen property from the Greenwood robbery was recovered. Ross and Stone were booked into the Sacramento County Jail on weapons and drug charges. They were also booked on warrants from El Dorado County. They are both in custody at the Sacramento County Jail in lieu of $350,000 bail.

Redding man faces $5M fine and 40 years in prison for pot crimes

After a five–day trial, a federal jury today found John James Kash, 52, of Redding, Calif., guilty of three counts of conspiracy to distribute marijuana, manufacturing marijuana, and conspiracy to launder money, United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner announced.

Father and son arrested during El Dorado Hills marijuana grow bust

Complaints about an offensive smell and unsightly tarps brought out El Dorado County Sheriff's detectives to a home in El Dorado Hills who ended up uncovering a large marijuana grow.

On October 23, 2015, a search warrant was served on a residence and property in the 1400 block of Malcom Dixon Road.

When they arrived they found 52-year-old Jeffrey Johansen, Sr. guarding a marijuana grow from a tree house, armed with a shotgun. He complied with law enforcement and put down the shotgun.

Ex-felon arrested for failing to register and being in possession of a firearm

Deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office responded to a complaint of loud music and firearms being discharged in the 1200 block of Slate Road in Minden, Nev. on October 23, 2015.

Once on the scene, they found Alfredo Ferreira, 54, at the home with several weapons. During the deputys' investigation they found that Ferreira is a sex offender who had failed to register. An arrest and search warrant were obtained and they found several weapons in his home.

Ferreira was arrested without incident and the weapons were seize. Ferreira has since posted bail.

Eight men indicted for manufacturing and selling rifles illegally

A federal grand jury returned a 70-count indictment today against eight men, charging them with various firearms offenses involving manufacturing and dealing firearms without a license, United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner and ATF Special Agent in Charge Jill A. Snyder announced.

Two million dollars worth of cannabis confiscated in drug bust

A five month long investigation into the Highlands Health and Wellness marijuana dispensary in Shingle Springs uncovered what authorities say was a multi-million dollar criminal operation.

The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO) centered their investigation on tax evasion, money laundering, conspiracy and the commercial distribution of marijuana for profit.

Multi-agency drug seizure in Nevada nets 6,000 marijuana plants

A large illicit marijuana grow in the mountains of Lincoln County, NV was eradicated after law enforcement found 6,476 marijuana plants in the remote area. The plants had an estimated street value of $17 million.

It appears that individuals had operated the site for several years and was capable of producing large quantities of illegal marijuana intended for sales and distribution. In addition to the marijuana plants, law enforcement personnel recovered and removed nearly two miles of black irrigation piping, along with various chemicals, used during the growing process

Two men charged with growing almost 5,000 pot plants in national forest

A federal grand jury returned a five-count indictment Thursday against Jesus Gonzalez-Alvizo, 25, and Reimundo Arriaga-Arriaga, 37, residents of Mexico, charging them with conspiracy to manufacture marijuana, manufacture of marijuana, possession of firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, and depredation of public lands and resources.

Man arrested in Incline Village after he shoots at car in Meyers

A 34-year-old man from Galt, CA was arrested in Incline Village, NV on Thursday night after turning himself in for shooting at a car in Meyers.

At approximately 9:18 p.m. on July 30, a Toyota Prius was traveling eastbound near the intersection of Highway 89 and Highway 50. The driver of the Prius said he was shot at by a passing vehicle. He couldn't identify the make of the car but thought it was a gold or tan sedan. Neither occupant in the Prius were injured though a bullet was found lodged in the driver's seat after it passed through the car door.

Gang sweep in El Dorado County

Four people were arrested earlier this week in El Dorado County when the El Dorado Gang Enforcement Detail (EDGE) contacted several gang members at their homes.

El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office, El Dorado County Probation, El Dorado County District Attorney’s Office, and the South Lake Tahoe Police Department participated in the sweep on May 18.

Father and son arrested in South Lake Tahoe for weapons and drugs

A father and son were arrested in South Lake Tahoe on Thursday evening for illegal possession of firearms, ammunition and drugs in the 800 block of Tallac Avenue.

South Lake Tahoe Police Department's SWAT team and SLEDNET detectives served a high-risk warrant on the residence that resulted in the arrest of 55-year old Richard Martin and his 23-year old son Joshua Martin.

Over the last three months, investigators had been examining several different cases that were all affiliated with the Tallac Avenue address where both Martins resided.

Pound of meth seized, three arrested in bust that focused on Dayton, Moundhouse

Three have been arrested after a monthlong investigation into methamphetamine trafficking in the Dayton and Moundhouse areas, the Lyon County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday night.

The investigation, which ended Jan. 21, led to the seizure of a pound of methamphetamine, eight firearms, and $4,500 in cash and involved two search warrants in the Dayton and Moundhouse area. Each of the three suspects are being held on $1 million bail.

El Dorado County Sheriff: Teen steals grandma's guns, swaps for pot

El Dorado County sheriff's investigators say a 14-year-old boy traded his grandmother's guns for marijuana and they don't know who has the firearms now.

The boy, who is from Missouri but staying with his grandmother in Wilton (Sacramento County), took a sledgehammer to her safe, took her two guns inside, and drove off with her car Monday night, according to sheriff's Deputy Chris Stelz.

Ex-Douglas County Sheriff deputy among Nevada residents sought in casino takeover

Northern Nevada’s U.S. Marshals-led fugitive task force is asking for the public’s help in tracking three men accused if a violent takeover of a casino in Madera County, California.

Sought are 46-year-old Timothy Tofaute and 35-year-old David Dixon, both residents of Sparks, and 38-year-old Brian Auchenbach of Gardnerville.

Brotherhood motorcycle member arrested for felony weapons, assault crimes, drug paraphernalia

On Tuesday, April 23rd, 2013 the SLTPD SWAT team executed high risk search and arrest warrants at 2493 William Avenue, and took 46-year-old Anthony Corbin into custody for several felonies.

Anthony Corbin is a confirmed member of the South Lake Tahoe Brotherhood Motorcycle Club. In mid-March Corbin was identified as the suspect who severely beat a 34-year-old South Lake Tahoe man.

Marijuana trafficker with El Dorado County grow operations sentenced to more than 17 years in prison

A Fresno man was sentenced Monday to prison on marijuana trafficking and conspiracy charges, in which he had grow operations in El Dorado, Placer and Tehama counties and then he and partners distributed the marijuana throughout the country.
Uriel Ochoa-Espindola, 44, received a sentence of 17.5 years, according to U.S. Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner.

Nevada won't recognize Arizona concealed weapon permits

Beginning today, Nevada no longer recognizes Arizona's concealed weapons permits, the state's Department of Public Safety announced.
At a Feb. 28 meeting of the Nevada Sheriffs’ and Chiefs’ association, the groups unanimously agreed to end the recognition of concealed weapon permits. According to a news release, the action was taken in accordance with Nevada Revised Statue 202.3689.

Placerville man pleads guilty to interstate marijuana trafficking

A 26-year-old Placerville man pleaded guilty Friday to conspiring to manufacture, distribute, and possess with intent to distribute marijuana, U.S. Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner said.

Dylan Hudson was in charge of an interstate marijuana-trafficking conspiracy, according to court documents. More than 1,100 pounds of processed marijuana, more than $329,000 in cash, and eight firearms were seized during the course of the investigation.

South Lake Tahoe police arrest man, two others sought in gang-related shooting

A South Lake Tahoe man faces an attempted murder charge and two others are being sought in what authorities said was a gang-related shooting in June that involved a pedestrian and a vehicle.
On Friday, authorities obtained a warrant and arrested Cesar Caro, 19, at his South Lake Tahoe home. He faces charges of attempted murder in the June 27 incident. His bail was set at $150,000.

Regulation Allowing Firearms In State Parks Wins Lawmaker Approval

CARSON CITY – A regulation eliminating a prohibition on carrying firearms in state parks has been approved by the Legislative Commission. The regulation still prohibits the discharge of a firearm in a state park with some limited exceptions, such as designated target shooting areas.
