The Nevada Highway Patrol will be joining other law enforcement agencies, looking for drivers and passengers who are not wearing their seatblets as well as children not properly secured in booster seats.

Deputies and troopers across the state will be stopping drivers for different traffic offenses and issuing citations for seatbelt violations through December 2, 2017 in their "Joining Forces" campaign to save lives. .

To volunteer to help others is a selfless act that is both humbling and uplifting. LAKE TAHOE - The Tahoe Fund is looking for those with solutions to help solve environmental challenges at Lake Tahoe, particularly those helping to reduce the risk of wildfire, addressing climate change impacts, and innovative ideas.

Many of South Lake Tahoe's roads are decades past their prime, and Measure C is in front of voters November 7 to increase taxes by one-half percent to pay for their maintenance and repair.

I support Measure C and let me tell you why, but it will have to start with a look back to see how we got here.

As it stands right now, any tax money collected goes to the General Fund where it can be disbursed as the city sees fit regardless what it is ear. That's why this Measure C is a good tax (if there is a good tax), because it is a specific fund that cannot be used for anything but what it's voted on.

Specifically this started as a way to keep CalPERS from robbing the general fund for unfunded pensions and liabilities. The problem is it's not enough and everyone knows it, even the authors.

Former South Lake Tahoe resident Wendy Shehadi passed away on October 19 2017 at the age of 76 in Las Vegas. Wendy is survived by her husband Dick; sons Mark and Scott; guardian son Mike Cokeron; grandsons Michael and Ryan Shehadi; brother Dr. Richard Rupp; sister in law Louise Rupp; brother in law Michael Shehadi; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

The second of two community meetings concerning the 2018 Sierra Boulevard Complete Streets Project will be held on Thursday, November 2 at 5:30 p.m. at the South Lake Tahoe Recreation Center and Swim Complex at 1180 Rufus Allen Blvd.

The Tahoe Transportation District (TTD) Board of Directors approved several funding agreements with local entities Friday which will provide free rides for several groups including Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) students, employees and guests of the Ridge Tahoe and associated properties, as well as Heavenly Mountain Resort employees.

The agreement between TTD and Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) to allow current students with a valid Lake Tahoe Community College identification card to ride all local transit services at no charge during the academic year ending June 30, 2018.

Have you heard, or seen, military helicopters around South Lake Tahoe the last few days? The U.S. Marine Corps Air Station Miramar is conducting training using the MV-22 Osprey tiltrotor aircraft at the Lake Tahoe Airport from October 11 until at least October 18.

At first, their plans were to station 12 aircraft at the airport until October 30, so final training plans may have changed. They will also be using a meeting room and hangar at the airport for training purposes.

At its annual conference Wednesday, the Nevada Chapter of the American Planning Association recognized the Tahoe-Truckee Plug-In Electric Vehicle Readiness Plan with awards for most outstanding plan and most outstanding public outreach. "While tourism is the lifeblood in our town, the residents are the heart and soul," said SLT City Councilman Jason Collin.

The Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority has opened the 2017 American Century Championship grant period, encouraging South Lake Tahoe non-profits to apply for a portion of $51,000 to be given to the community.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — Thanks to the San Francisco-based non-profit Mission Asset Fund (MAF), scholarship funds are now available to cover the costs for California community college students who need to renew their Deferred Action for Childhood Arrives (DACA) status before the upcoming October 5 deadline. MAF, which has a long history of supporting Dreamers, has dedicated scholarship funds specifically to help California community college students, along with CSU and UC students, pay for the $495 DACA renewal fee.

The Placer County Board of Supervisors have approved two chunks of money to go to their plans to transform North Lake Tahoe into a thriving, local community and, at the same time, provide visitors with a great experience.

Homelessness isn’t just a South Lake Tahoe issue. It isn’t just an El Dorado county issue. It isn't just a California problem, though the state ranks 49th in housing units per capita.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Three friends from the Sacramento area spent Sunday morning hiking in Desolation Wilderness along the Lyons Creek Trail with a goal of getting to Lake Sylvia, then Pyramid Peak.

They got to Lake Sylvia along a well marked trail, but were getting tired and decided to look for a shortcut to Pyramid Peak.

"We were going to hike the ridge and do a gradual decent," said one of the hikers, Sarah Pollo, 33. "We were pretty tired and looked for a short cut."

"It seemed like a good idea at the time," she said. "But it was a miscalculation."
