From South Lake Tahoe to Kenya, Cefalu to open $2 million soap factory

From a Chapman dorm room to 12 locations in African countries and now a plan for a soap factory in Kenya, local nonprofit Health 2 Humanity has come a long way in just under three years.

MontBleu pool renovated and opened, day passes available

While many locals have probably never used the pool at MontBleu, guests of the South Shore casino hotel are being treated to the first major renovation at the pool in over 30 years.

The pool's signature rock waterfall is gone, something that was deteriorating after then of thousands of timed falling water displays, In its place is a small lazy river, popular with the younger set due to its four-foot depth.

Health 2 Humanity Corp.(H2H), a hygiene products company started by 2013 South Tahoe High grad, and current Chapman University student John Cefalu, is taking another step forward in helping people around the world with a newly launched crowdfunding campaign.

H2H plans to use funds raised in the campaign to further expand globally their hygiene solutions in developing countries with their sustainable product and #NoMoreDirtyHands campaign.

Many of us have contributed to local school sports teams by buying candy bars, raffle tickets or attending fundraiser dinners, but how many of us have bought soap for ourselves, provided for a needy child in Africa at the same time we're also supporting the teams?

What started as a project started in a Southern California dorm room by a South Tahoe High graduate has grown into an organization that helps out those in need throughout Africa.

John Cefalu was just 18 years old when he started making soap in his dorm room. He decided to leave the world better than he had found it. Those small efforts in the dorm were the beginnings of Health 2 Humanity.

Four Business and Economics Majors at Chapman University are working to change the lives of millions of people around the world. One of the young men who started ‘Health 2 Humanity' is from our area. John Cefalu is not only a South Tahoe High School grad, the 19-year-old entrepreneur is now also a soap-making expert.
