MontBleu pool renovated and opened, day passes available

While many locals have probably never used the pool at MontBleu, guests of the South Shore casino hotel are being treated to the first major renovation at the pool in over 30 years.

The pool's signature rock waterfall is gone, something that was deteriorating after then of thousands of timed falling water displays, In its place is a small lazy river, popular with the younger set due to its four-foot depth.

Also gone are the skylights that were one used by paparazzi to spy on Roseanne Barr's poolside wedding to Ben Thomas on February 14, 1995. In their place is a new ceiling with an outdoor decor in mind.

MontBleu's pool was closed for the past two months as the major demolition and construction was completed. The removal of the waterfall not only replaced a aging system that often needed repair, but it also created a safer enviornment as it opened the line of site for spa and pool staff.

They now two handicap lifts for the pool, and one for the jacuzzi. The remodeled pool area now finishes up the remodeled spa which features a salon, massage area, gym, steam and jacuzzi rooms and store. Items sold there include Redken and Babor products as well as soap from Health 2 Humanity, a hygiene company started by STHS graduate John Cefalu in his dorm room to raise money and awareness for global diseases.

Locals and the public are now able to stop by and enjoy the pool and spa with a daily, or monthly, pass. For $10 per person, the pool can be used all day, and for $20, the spa use can be added. There are some restrictions: lifeguard must be on duty (so call ahead, and Monday-Thursday non-holidays only). Monthly passes for the gym, pool and spa are also available ($65-$90 per month).

The indoor pool is open year-round.
