It's official: NHL Outdoors at Lake Tahoe™ coming to Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Mon, 01/11/2021 - 6:43pmLAKE TAHOE, Nev./Calif. - It's been a plan in the works for months and today the National Hockey League (NHL) made it official - they are bringing NHL Outdoors at Lake Tahoe™ to Edgewood Tahoe February 20-21, 2021.
Bridgestone NHL Outdoors Saturday will showcase the Colorado Avalanche and the Vegas Golden Knights on Feb. 20. Honda NHL Outdoors Sunday will feature the Philadelphia Flyers and the Boston Bruins on Feb. 21. Both games will be broadcast at 3:00 p.m. ET on NBC in the United States and on Sportsnet and TVA Sports in Canada.
Two NHL outdoor games planned for Edgewood Tahoe in February

The outdoor games will be between the Las Vegas Knights and Colorado Avalanche on February 20 and the Boston Bruins and the Philadelphia Flyers on February 21.

TRPA approves 6,000 seat Tahoe South Event Center

Edgewood Tahoe has donated the 13.3 acres at the corner of Lake Parkway and Highway 50 needed for the center.

Oregon Ducks win back-to-back Pac-8 Hockey Championships in South Lake Tahoe

The final game put the #1 and #2 seeds from the north, the University of Oregon and Boise State, together to fight it out for the trophy.
For the second consecutive year, and for the fifth time, the Oregon Ducks will be taking home the championship title back to Eugene. They blanked the Boise State Broncos 3-0.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The University of Oregon is looking for a repeat as champions when they face Boise State on Sunday at noon for the Pac-8 Men's Ice Hockey Championship at the South Lake Tahoe Ice Area.
The top four teams from both the North and South Divisions have been in town for the three-day tournament. In the North Division, Oregon (11-3) and Boise State (9-3-2) secured the top two spots in the division. The Eastern Washington Eagles (8-5-1) were the third seed and Western Washington (7-7) was the fourth and final seed.

Anthony LoRe, a junior, who also plays for Tahoe Prep Hockey Academy, is traveling to the Bahamas with his family for some fun on the beach.
Senior Jordyn Yochheim said she’s going to go sledding, work on her senior project, and spend time vacationing in San Diego.

After months of battle on the ice, the field of eight is set to crown this year’s champion of the PAC 8 Hockey Conference.
The four teams from both the North and South Divisions were announced yesterday that will compete for the title in Lake Tahoe this upcoming weekend. With this year’s expansion to twelve teams in the conference, this year’s division battles came down to the final weekend.

The South Tahoe Amateur Hockey Association (STAHA) Grizzlies are hosting a weekend of hockey December 15-16 at the Lake Tahoe Ice Arena for their U10, U12 and U14 teams. Opponents include the San Jose Sharks junior team, the Cupertino Cougars and Santa Clara Blackhawks.
The Grizzlies are a youth developmental travel ice hockey program who participate in the Norcal Youth Hockey League. Their 14B team is undefeated and is bringing their 10-0-1 record into the weekend's play.

Coming off a 7-0 win over Los Gatos at the Solar4Amerian Ice in San Jose on Tuesday, the Tahoe team hosts St. Mary's Preparatory High School Rams on Saturday, November 10 at 1:00 p.m. This game is part of the team's competition in the Anaheim Ducks High School Hockey League.

South Lake Tahoe resident Rocky Beaty has embarked on a long road to recovery after suffering a spinal cord injury while going gymnastics on May 28, 2018 in a local gym. Beaty fractured his C6 and C7 and was flown to Renown where he underwent a four-plus hour surgery, removing bulging discs, fusing his vertebrae, and placing two rods on the front and back of his spine.

Washington and USC win first round of Pac 8 Championship in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Fri, 02/09/2018 - 10:48pmFriday marked the return of the PAC 8 college hockey championship to the South Lake Tahoe Ice Arena. Last year's champion, the UCLA Bruins, return to defend their title.
Along with the Bruins, hitting the ice this weekend will also be Cal Berkeley, University of Washington, University of Oregon, UCLA and Arizona State.
In the early match up Friday, defending champs #4 UCLA Bruins lost to #5 ranked team, the USC Trojans. The score ended up at 4-3.
At 4:00 p.m., the #3 Washington Huskies and the #6 Oregon Ducks met on the ice with the Huskies winning 6-3.
2018 PAC 8 Hockey Championship comes to South Lake Tahoe

South Lake Tahoe hockey games to raise funds for Santa Rosa fire victims

New rules for those attending American Century Golf in Lake Tahoe

The tournament takes place at Edgewood Tahoe July 11-16, 2017.
There is no bag check or camera check area as in the past, so if attempting to enter and items you are carrying are not allowed they will have to be returned to motel room, vehicles or disposed of.
No backpacks or large purses. All bags are subject to search.
No food. Small 12 oz. water bottle is ok.
Pete Sonntag leaving Lake Tahoe to head up Whistler Blackcomb
Submitted by paula on Fri, 06/16/2017 - 7:09pmPete Sonntag, the current senior vice president of Vail Resort's Lake Tahoe region, is leaving the lake to be the new chief operating officer of Vail's Whistler Blackcomb.
He will start this summer once his Canadian work visa is approved.
The appointment follows the announcement last month that longtime Whistler Blackcomb chief operating officer, Dave Brownlie, was stepping down to pursue other endeavors after a nearly 30-year career at the resort.
History is made with two Lake Tahoe Grizzlies teams taking state titles

The Lake Tahoe Grizzlies Pee Wee A and Bantam B hockey teams won their respective divisions during the tournament at Sharks Ice March 31 to April 2.
This is the first time in CAHA history where two teams from one hockey club took home the gold in the same year.
South Tahoe Grizzlies win Norcal title, now headed to state championships

The South Lake Tahoe team attracts top players from around the area, all playing under Coach Ken Wood and Assistant Coach Gary Grampie.

Tahoe Grizzlies Pee Wee "A Team" advances to International Silver Stick Hockey Tournament

“I’m extremely proud of this team,” said Grizzlies coach Mike Gunderson. “They’ve worked hard to get this point and have really come together as a team, many have been teammates going on two or more years now. Everyone on the team contributed during the tournament and all were represented on score sheet.”

She was born in Turtle Creek, Pennsylvania on March 10, 1939 to Henry Mock of Waipio Valley, Hawaii and Mary Jane Brashier Mock Shirley of Pennsylvania. She had one sister Jane Rowe Ronca who lives in Arizona.

This year, the bassist for Rascal Flatts, Jay DeMarcus, won top honors with his cork flying 80 feet.

The proposed fees and charges for 2015-16 show no change for users of the recreation center or campground, a $2 to $3 increase in daily golf course fees, a $5 to $15 increase in golf course passes.
Man who inspired South Lake Tahoe act of kindness movement dies of ALS

At October's homecoming football game at STHS, many of Kevin's classmates from the class of 1984 and former teammates from the wrestling and football teams came together to honor Kevin and fondly share their memories.
South Lake Tahoe hockey team raising funds for international finals in Canada
Submitted by paula on Sat, 12/05/2015 - 9:12pmThe Lake Tahoe Grizzlies Peewee Team is the 2015 Pacific District Regional Silver Stick Champions in the Peewee B division which has earned them a spot at the International Finals in Ontario, Canada. In order to help the young boys and girls with travel expenses, the team has started a fundraising campaign selling "Tahoe Strong" T-Shirts.
All 14 team members have excelled not only on the ice, but in the classroom according to fundraiser organizer Tye Watson. They players come from South Lake Tahoe, Incline Village, Truckee, Reno, Carson City and Minden.

The 21 year-old firefighter who died in Saturday evening as he was working on the Sierra Fire has been identified as Michael Hallenbeck of Shingle Springs, CA.
Hallenbeck was a member of Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) Organized Crew 36.
Former NFL players hosting football clinic and camp in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Fri, 07/31/2015 - 6:48pmThe High Performance Hockey and Football Camp will take place in South Lake Tahoe beginning on August 1 for all kids ages eight to 18.
Campers will participate in either hockey or football, or have the option of attending both camps. Former NFL players Byron Chamberlain, Mike Sherrard, and JoJO Townsell will join other coaches and players including hockey standout Michael Finderoff in giving kids a solid foundation in the fundamentals needed to excel in both sports.
Justin Timberlake already a crowd-pleaser at American Century
Submitted by paula on Tue, 07/14/2015 - 10:54pmFans of the American Century Golf Tournament in South Lake Tahoe have grown accustomed to superstars, but the addition of actor, singer, golfer Justin Timberlake may bring a whole new meaning to "celebrity" for many in the galleries.
This is Timberlake's first time playing in the tournament at Edgewood Tahoe. The six handicap avid golfer is getting the attention of many who don't usually follow golf.
The 34-year-old Timberlake will tee off at 9 a.m. on Wednesday with actor Alfonso Ribeiro. The two will be paired with amateur players selected to join them.
Local officers bring home gold from 2015 US Police and Fire Games

California Highway Patrol (CHP) Officer Paul Smyrski and South Lake Tahoe Police Officer Chris Webber were part of a multi-agency police hockey team.
Their team won gold.
The United States Police and Fire Championships are open to eligible firefighting and law enforcement personnel, either active or retired, from all 50 states and United States’ territories. Originated in 1967, the competition has expanded from the original 16 sports to more than 60 events.
American Century releases list of celebrity golfers to participate in Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Tue, 05/19/2015 - 5:38pmOnce again, the most popular celebrity golf tournament in the county will be held on the southern shores of Lake Tahoe. The 26th Annual American Century Championship will be held in South Lake Tahoe from July 14-19, 2015 at Edgewood Tahoe.
The list of the 95 participants released resemble the 'A List' of who's who in sports and entertainment, as well as the military. They will all be going after a prize purse of $625,000.
Kids can try hockey for free this Saturday

If your kids have always wanted to see if they would enjoy playing ice hockey, a free event this Saturday may be just what you're looking for.
Kraft is sponsoring a free day of ice hockey across America on Saturday, and the South Lake Tahoe Ice Arena will be one of the spots they're hosting.
From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., all kids can try out hockey at the arena which is located at 1176 Rufus Allen Blvd in South Lake Tahoe.
