Public meeting for El Dorado County Ad Hoc Hemp Committee

The El Dorado County Ad Hoc Hemp Committee will be meeting on Thursday October 29, 2020 from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. via Zoom.

Following a presentation on industrial hemp by the Agriculture Department on June 23, the Board of Supervisors requested the formation of an Ad Hoc Hemp Committee to include two members of the Board.

Construction temporarily stopped on South Lake Tahoe Greenway trail due to material delay

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Work had been underway on two phases of the 3.86-mile long South Tahoe Greenway Shared-Use Trail but activity has come to a temporary halt due to material issues.

COVID-19 resulted in delayed delivery of materials for the precast concrete boardwalk system needed on the trail. The Houston, Texas concrete plant contracted for the project has been directly impacted.

Noboru Oishi, MD ~ 11/11/28 - 3/5/20

Noboru Oishi, MD, 91, passed away suddenly and peacefully at home on March 5, 2020, in South Lake Tahoe.

Originally from Kauai, Hawaii, Dr. Oishi first traveled to Lake Tahoe in 1979 and has made South Lake Tahoe his second home ever since. Noboru and his wife, Jeri, split their time between Tahoe and Texas. Besides being an oncologist, Dr. Oishi and Jeri owned the Enchanted Florist in South Lake Tahoe

South Lake Tahoe Police Chief Brian Uhler says goodbye; March retirement date set

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - In just two weeks the City of South Lake Tahoe will be saying goodbye to its sixth police chief since becoming incorporated in 1965.

Chief Brian Uhler will be wrapping up a 40-year career in law enforcement when he retires from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) on March 12, 2020. He has been the second-longest serving chief, coming within a couple of months of the City's second police chief, John Crow.

Krista Kline Carson ~ 1971 - 2019

Krista Kline Carson passed away peacefully on July 9, 2019 surrounded by family and friends after a 3½ year battle with cancer. Always positive, always upbeat she would constantly describe her life as AWSOME! She was a positive force for everyone who knew her.

She is survived by her husband Jesse Kalin (Philip) Carson, daughter Trella Ruth Carson, parents Don and Gwen Kline, brother and sister-in-law Scott and Jen Kline, step-daughter Madison Merz, step-son Travis Steidle and uncles, cousins and other relatives too numerous to mention.

Services planned for Tahoe National Forest's Daniel Laird

The Tahoe National Forest family suffered the tragic loss of one of their own on March 27 when Capt. Daniel Laird was tragically killed in a helicopter crash during a prescribed fire on the Sam Houston National Forest in Texas.

Tragedies of this nature serve as a reminder of the honorable work and sacrifices made by firefighters like Daniel, who daily commit themselves to support and protect communities around the country. Forest official are gathering all of the details of this tragic event and will share them as soon as possible.

Tahoe National Forest helitak captain dies in Texas crash

A helicopter accident on the Sam Houston National Forest in Texas has killed a helitack captain from the Tahoe National Forest.

Officials with the U.s. Forest Service said Daniel J. Laird, a 23-year agency employee, was joined by two other crew members on a helicopter assisting a routine controlled burn on the forest when the helicopter went down. The two other crew members were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Laird, who lived in Yuba City, is survived by his wife and daughter.

Reno residents die in Mt. Rose crash

A crash on May 5 on the Mt. Rose Highway between a 2016 BMW X1 SUV and a 2017 Nissan Sentra sedan claimed the lives of an 78-year-old woman and an 83-year-old man, both of Reno, Nev.

At approximately 5:00 p.m., troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) responded to a serious injury crash involving the two vehicles on State Route 431 (Mount Rose Highway) at the intersection of Callahan Road in Reno.

Preliminary investigation shows that the BMW was traveling westbound on the Mt. Rose Highway, east of Callahan Road. The Sentra was traveling eastbound, west of Callahan Road.

Seven jailed in door-to-door care packages for soldiers cash scam

Seven out-of-state men were arrested Saturday on felony fraud and other charges after officers uncovered a scam where the suspects allegedly went door-to-door asking for money donations they said would be used to assemble care packages sent to U.S. soldiers overseas, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Officers began investigating the men after dispatch received several calls from Carson City residents who said they were asked for money from one of the men and the pitch that was being used didn’t appear to be legitimate, according to the arrest report.

J.T. Snow, Marcus Allen and others to golf in 8th annual Gene Upshaw Classic

NFL Hall of Famers, former Major League Baseball players and other sports celebrities will gather July 17-18 to once again pay tribute to the former Oakland Raider at the 8th annual Gene Upshaw Memorial Golf Classic at the Schaffer’s Mill Golf & Lake Club in Truckee, Calif.

Upshaw, who often played in the Celebrity Golf Tournament in South Lake Tahoe, died of pancreatic cancer in 2008 at Tahoe Forest Hospital.

South Lake Tahoe murder suspect arrested in Texas

Domenic Seanlee Randolph, a suspect in the murder of Dennis Wright, Jr. at a South Lake Tahoe motel, was arrested Tuesday in Texas.

The 22-year-old-Randolph is the third suspect arrested for the January 30, 2016 shooting death of Wright, who allegedly brought 100 pounds of marijuana to the Beverly Lodge to sell. He was shot and killed in the motel's parking lot during an apparent robbery attempt.

South Lake Tahoe woman facing brain cancer with friends, family and hugs

The 1989 South Tahoe High graduate, wife, mother and wellness coordinator for Barton University, is battling cancer after a tumor removed from her brain was found to be Stage IV Glioblastoma Multiforme, one of the fastest growing brain cancers. On Monday, January 18 she begins a six week regime of radiation and chemotherapy.

Get ready for Tahoe WordWave, a literary event the likes of which has never before been seen in South Lake Tahoe, and the rest of the country is taking note.

Modeled after San Francisco's LitQuake, organizers of Tahoe WordWave have gathered creative and inspiring writers, musicians, and performers from around the country to share their talents over a three day experience at Tallac Historic Site. Tahoe WordWave 2015 lineup announced

Writers, readers and performers from all around the country will appear at South Lake Tahoe Oct. 9-11, 2015 for WordWave, a three-day festival held on the grounds of Valhalla at the Tallac Historic Site. This literary mash-up will feature oral storytelling, theater performances and free readings, panels on craft, yoga, and a novel writing camp for kids. Highlights include a one-act playwriting contest, a Maker’s Station demo with bookbinding, letterpress, drum making, and found poetry and art.
