Join the experienced skippers Of WYC for a day filled with classroom instruction and optional on-the-water application. Men and women of any skill level are invited to attend.

Pre-Registration is Required, Space is Limited. The clinic will be held at the WYC clubhouse located above the harbor master's office in the Tahoe Keys Marina. The cost is $35 for WYC members~~$45 for non-members.

Three rescued from Lake Tahoe near Nevada Beach

Three men were plucked from Lake Tahoe on Monday afternoon after they crashed their jet ski near Nevada Beach. The teen and men, ages 13-31, were in the water for about 25 minutes and were all nearly hypothermic when rescued.

At 1:30 p.m., the crew of the newly launched Marine 7 of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office was on routine patrol when they noticed a jet ski stopped about 1/8 of a mile off shore. They heard a shout for help as the approached the jet ski.

After crashing the jet ski, the riders lost its key.

Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows donate to injured veterans program

Squaw Valley/Alpine Meadows made a donation to the High Fives Foundation in the amount of $150,000 to commemorates Memorial Day and honor U.S. military veterans.

The foundation's “Military to the Mountains” program will receive the donation so injured veterans can be trained on the slopes. The program, a partnership between Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows, High Fives Foundation, Achieve Tahoe (formerly Disabled Sports USA Far West) and Adaptive Training Foundation, hosts and trains injured veterans of the United States armed forces on the slopes of Squaw Valley.

CHP looking for South Lake Tahoe area Senior Volunteers and Explorers

Volunteers are needed by the California Highway Patrol for two of their programs on the South Shore, Senior Volunteers and Explorers.

The Senior Volunteer Program provides senior adult men and women the opportunity to
volunteer their time to assist CHP employees in the performance of their duties.
This assistance enhances the Department’s ability to provide safety, service, and security for all Californians.

Wounded Warrior Andrew Bachelder added to American Century Championship

Retired Staff Sergeant Andrew Bachelder, a decorated veteran of Iraq and the ongoing war in Afghanistan, has been added to the American Century Championship field of celebrities for their annual Lake Tahoe tournament July 19-24, 2016.

Bachelder earned a spot by winning the George W. Bush Presidential Center’s Warrior Open this past October in Irving, Tex.

Amgen Tour of California finishes in Sacramento

After 782 miles and eight days of racing, 23 year-old Julian Alaphilippe (FRA) of Etixx – Quick-Step Pro Cycling Team clinched the 2016 Amgen Tour of California championship, becoming the youngest rider to hold that title in the race’s 11 years. Amgen excitement building for South Lake Tahoe races

Stage 4 of the Amgen Tour of California is in the books, and now it's time for 180 of the best in men's cycling and 108 of elite women's racers to head to South Lake Tahoe.

Peter Sagan won Wednesday's race at the Laguna Seca racetrack. BMC's Greg Van Avermaet challenged Sagan, but it wasn't enough and the Tinkoff rider easily won and now wears the green jersey of the sprint competition leader. Dimension Data’s Nathan Haas was third after leading out the sprint.

Not only do people around South Lake Tahoe get the opportunity to watch international stars of men's cycling on Thursday, they also get to watch the women as the Amgen Tour of California features both races.

There will be a Lifestyle Festival in the parking lot at Heavenly California Base Lodge from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This is the starting and ending point for the women's race, as well as the finish for the men, so a great viewing spot, but there are other opportunities to watch the cyclists as they zip by all through town.

Countdown to Amgen: First Stage in the books, South Lake Tahoe on Thursday

It came down to the final moment of the race, and Peter Sagan emerged from the impressive field of sprinters as the winner of the San Diego Stage 1 during the Amgen Tour of California on Sunday, May 15.

Sagen, who rides for Tinkoff, was last year’s overall winner. This was his third victory of the season. Cannondale’s Wouter Wippert earned runner-up honors on the stage and Dylan Groenewegen of LottoNL – Jumbo took third at the end of the 105 mile stage in and around San Diego.

Women of the Moose in SLT help local homeless youth

A community group effort led by the Women of the Moose (WOTM) Chapter 408 in South Lake Tahoe is helping the homeless youth of the community

WOTM help out with the kids who are part of the Lake Tahoe Unified School District's McKinney Vento program. LTUSD receives an annual allocation of about $1,000 to purchase school supplies and help with bus transportation for its approximately 250 homeless students.

South Lake Tahoe police work to keep area bike trails safe

Even though the bike paths through South Lake Tahoe are relatively safe, those using them should exercise caution at all times and be aware of their surroundings, especially when going by areas of thick brush and low lighting.

After the May 4, 2016 stabbing of two men on the isolated section of bike trail behind Meeks Lumber, SLTPD Lt. Brian Williams offered that advice for the bikers and walkers that utilize the trails.

Two month long investigation nets two in Carson City drug bust

The Tri-NET Narcotic Task Force arrested two Carson City men last week after a two-month long investigation into drug trafficking in the area.

Michael Bowman, 45, was taken into custody on April 14, 2016 by the Carson City Sheriff's Office without incident on Highway 50 East. He was charged with four felonies, Level I Trafficking a Controlled Substance – Meth, Conspiracy to Violate the Uniformed Controlled Substance Act, Sales of a Controlled Substance - Meth and Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Two men sought in Northern Nevada Coin Shop burglary

The Northern Nevdada Coin Shop on Highway 395 in Minden was broken into in the early morning hours Monday, April 18.

At 1:50 a.m., Douglas County Sheriff's Deputies responded to an alarm at the business. When they arrived they discovered unknown suspects had forced entry into the building through an exterior door. One inside, the suspects entered the business and stole coins and jewelry.

Volunteers needed for Amgen Tour's South Lake Tahoe competition

The Amgen Tour of California South Lake Tahoe Organizing Committee is seeking 300 volunteers for the combined stages for men and women on Thursday, May 19, 2016.

The men’s elite race Stage 5 will begin in Lodi, Calif. at 10 a.m., and finish around 3:45 p.m. at Heavenly Mountain Resort’s California Base Lodge in South Lake Tahoe totaling 132.4 miles. The women’s Stage 1 will start at 10:50 a.m. and finish approximately at 2:00 p.m. at Heavenly, totaling 72.7 miles.

South Tahoe High grad Jerod Haase is Stanford's new basketball coach

Update:

Stanford has hired Jerod Haase as its next head coach, the school announced Friday.

Haase, 41, has been the head coach at UAB the past four seasons. He was 54-46 heading into this season, but the Blazers went 26-7 in 2015-16 and won the Conference USA regular-season title before falling in the conference tournament.

Suspects in South Lake Tahoe murder plead not guilty

Two of the men suspected of killing 40-year-old Dennis Wright, Jr. in South Lake Tahoe appeared before Judge Suzanne Kingsbury in El Dorado County Superior Court on Monday.

Tristan Batten, 18, and Harvest Davidson, 20, both entered a not guilty plea.

Attempted beer theft in South Lake Tahoe leads to two arrested on felony charges

Two South Lake Tahoe men were arrested Monday night on charges of robbery and conspiracy after attempting to steal four-12 packs of beer from a local grocery store.

South Lake Tahoe police officers responded to a call from the Safeway on Lake Tahoe Blvd. at 11:02 p.m. on March 14, 2016 after a physical altercation occurred when two store employees and two citizens tried to stop 19-year-old Jose Rodriguez and 18-year-old Jose Romero as they allegedly attempted to leave the store with the beer without paying.

Four arrested after high speed chase through Douglas County and South Lake Tahoe crime

2:45 p.m. 2/28/16 update:

Two different high speed chases through the Carson Valley and up Kingsbury Grade resulted in the arrest of two men and two women on Saturday, February 27, 2017.

At 3:10 p.m., a trooper from the Nevada Highway Patrol spotted a silver Mercedes-Benz with California plates going down U.S. 50 (Spooner Summit) at 85 mph. The driver failed to pull over for the trooper, instead turning South on Highway 395 towards Minden, Nev., at speeds in excess of 100 mph.

Missing Donner Lake boaters: One man’s body found; search for second resumes Sunday

The body of one of two men whose canoe capsized Friday in choppy water on Donner Lake was found Saturday morning. The search for the second man continued but was suspended Saturday evening, Truckee police said.

Dive teams are scheduled to return Sunday morning to continue the search, Truckee police said.

Timothy Roger Stoll June 16,1938- February 12, 2016

Dr. Timothy Stoll died suddenly of galloping pneumonia on February 12, 2016 at the age of 77.

Dr. Stoll, an icon of the Tahoe area, practiced dentistry for over 50 years in both South Lake Tahoe and Minden.

Tahoe Warm Room celebrates two months since doors opened

It started with a spark of energy provided by Diana Hankins in December of 2013, and Thursday night two years of constant work and determination were celebrated at the Tahoe Warm Room during an Open House.

The Tahoe Warm Room opened their doors on December 18, 2015, and since then they have served 74 different people who have come in from the cold to keep warm, get clothing and blankets, a hot cup of coffee and meet with a social worker, if desired.

Flash mob at Heavenly Village for #OneBillionRIsing

Over 60 women, men and children took their message to Heavenly Village on Valentine's Day as part of an international campaign to end violence against women. Maddie Bowman leads pack at U.S. Freeskiing Grand Prix at Park City

Park City, UT (Feb. 3, 2016) – The U.S. qualified seven total skiers to the finals of the Visa U.S. Freeskiing Grand Prix at Park City on Wednesday, with Maddie Bowman of South Lake Tahoe leading the way with the top spot for the women while Aaron Blunck (Crested Butte, CO) was the top American for the men, qualifying in second.

"Qualifying went really well," said the South Tahoe High graduate. "Everyone’s pretty tired after X Games but everyone went out and did the best that they could do and laid down a good qualifier, so I’m excited for finals."

Two men sought in South Lake Tahoe murder

Investigators from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department are looking for two suspects in Saturday night's murder of 40-year-old Dennis Wright, Jr. at the Beverly Lodge. According to SLTPD, Wright and his girlfriend came to South Lake Tahoe from their home in Amador County to sell 100 pounds of marijuana from a room at the motelnwhich is located on Lake Tahoe Blvd.

Amgen Tour announces Lake Tahoe men's and women's race schedule

Lake Tahoe will be the scene of both Amgen Tour of California's men's and women's races in May of 2016, and the routes announced Thursday show cyclists will ride into the Tahoe Basin from Kirkwood and Hope Valley, circle the lake, ride up the mountains leading to the Heavenly Mountain Resort and through South Lake Tahoe.

Amgen officials said more than 350 of the world’s top cyclists will challenge themselves in Lake Tahoe by putting their strength and muscle power to the test as they climb, descend and break away along steep and winding stretches of the Sierra on Thursday, May 19.

Fear of freezing to death prompts two criminals to call 911

Two men trying to evade arrest on January 22, ended up calling 911 and telling officers they were freezing to death and in fear of dying.

Tristen Crossland and Derek Dion were the lone occupants of a car that was pulled over by a California Fish and Wildlife officer on the morning of Friday, January 22, near Highway 50 and Wrights Lake Road when they decided to flee on foot.

"Manly man's" barbershop opens up in South Lake Tahoe

The barbershop is making a comeback, something the clients at Beau's Barbershop in South Lake Tahoe are happy about.

"Barbering is a lost art," said Beau Baker, the shop's owner. "But, barbers are making a comeback."

"I just got the best haircut of my life from a new barber in town," said South Tahoe High Athletic Director Tony Sunzeri. "It's an old school barbershop with new school flavor."

Sheila Charlene Middlebrook 1950 -2015

On Wednesday morning, December 23, 2015, my wife and best friend, Charlene Middlebrook lost her long and courageous battle with cancer. As with everything she did, Charlene handled the cancer and a subsequent stroke, with grace, courage, total resolve and of course her humor and her smile, once again being the hero in our family. Charlene and I met here in Tahoe 35 years ago and soon discovered that we had both grown up in Southern California about two miles apart.

Three in custody in connection with fatal Carson City shooting

UPDATE 2:00 p.m. - Three young adults were taken into custody Monday morning in connection with the fatal shooting of a young man over a marijuana deal near a park in north Carson City, Sheriff Ken Furlong said.

The three — two men and a woman — were arrested without incident by Carson City SWAT at an apartment complex on Fifth Street near Harbin Street. The three came out following demands by SWAT to surrender after investigators learned they had been hiding inside a residence.

Day One of SnowGlobe: Excited music fans, very few complaints

There is snow on the ground and a chill in the air, perfect conditions for the thousands of music fans in South Lake Tahoe for SnowGlobe 2015.

Lines of young men and women, some dressed in costume or wearing wild hats, eagerly awaited the begin of the three day music festival. Anticipation had been growing for weeks as the social media hype was on.

Deputies arrest pair of Grinches who stole holiday gifts

he Washoe County Sheriff’s Office arrested two men today on charges of stealing gifts from generous citizens in the Galena Forest area. The two men have been identified as Sean Madigan, 51, and his son, Depaul Madigan, 22, both of Reno. They are accused of taking Christmas gifts homeowners generously left as a ‘thank you’ for waste services employees.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office was notified of the theft when several alert citizens called to report the suspicious activity. The homeowners were able to provide a vehicle description and a description of the subjects involved.

"The Loft" opens in South Lake Tahoe's Heavenly Village

The Loft opened on December 16 in South Lake Tahoe, offering the area's first indoor year-round live theater which also includes a lounge and Italian dining room.

Designed by PR Entertainment, the $1 million complex features 107-seats, a separate dining area serving authentic Italian cuisine, bar and upscale lounge, all on the top floor of Heavenly Village above the movie theater.

Warm Room opens doors in South Lake Tahoe

We've seen them walking along the streets, sleeping in the forests or hanging outside of an all night market. The faces of South Lake Tahoe's homeless. Winter can be brutal on the homeless in town with below freezing temperatures, snow covered paths and no place to keep warm.

That is, until today.

The Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless opened the doors of their new Warm Room on Friday, ready to take in their first visitors at 7:00 p.m. It is a safe and warm place for people over 18, getting them out of physically harmful conditions.
