Warmer temps ahead for South Lake Tahoe; Rapid melting of snowpact expected

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Temperatures will become very warm with highs near 80s in Lake Tahoe and above 90 degrees for most lower elevations Monday through Wednesday. Dry conditions are expected through Tuesday, then isolated afternoon and evening thunderstorms will be possible from Wednesday through next weekend.

Girl receives minor injuries after scooter collides with vehicle in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A 12-year-old girl was transported to the hospital Sunday after the Lime scooter she was riding collided with a vehicle in South Lake Tahoe.

Just after 2:00 p.m., emergency personnel responded to the McDonald's just east of Ski Run Boulevard after the girl, who was not wearing a helmet, sustained minor injuries in the accident.

The driver stopped and is being cooperative according to SLTPD Sgt. Doug Sentell.

The collision is under investigation and no other information is available.

The Kiwanis Club of Tahoe Sierra in conjunction with the El Dorado County Sheriff's office, South Lake Tahoe Police Department, Lake Valley Fire Department, South Lake Tahoe Fire Department, Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, California Highway Patrol, Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition and Blue Zone Sports will be hosting a bike rodeo at South Tahoe Middle School on Saturday June 8 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

USFS Taylor Creek Stream Profile Chamber: Grand reopening June 7

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The popular Stream Profile Chamber at the Taylor Creek Visitor Center has been closed since the glass broke during a routine cleaning almost one year ago. With financial help from the Tahoe Fund and Tahoe Blue Vodka, those walking the Rainbow Trail will once again be able to get an up-close underwater view of aquatic life and the spawning Kokanee salmon at Lake Tahoe each year.

The USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit is holding a grand reopening celebration of the chamber with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at noon on Friday, June 7.

Traffic collision in South Lake Tahoe; Injuries reported

Update May 19 9:00 a.m.: The 65-year-old driver who verred off Lake Tahoe Boulevard on Saturday suffered a medical episode according to the South Lake Tahoe Police Department. The unidentified South Lake Tahoe man was transported to Barton Hospital with minor injuries from the crash.

Update 1:15 p.m.: One person was transported to the hospital after they left the roadway and ended up hitting two parked cars and a building Saturday morning. The driver was transported with unknown injuries.

Two Douglas County Commissioners get into altercation during Lake Tahoe meeting

STATELINE, Nev. - There was an altercation between two members of the Douglas County Board of Commissioners on Thursday, May 16 at a meeting in Stateline at Lake Tahoe.

The incident happened at around 5:55 p.m. and involved two board members, Commissioner Chairman Barry Penzel and Commissioner John Engels.

According to a Douglas County Undersheriff Ron Elges, the Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the commissioners meeting at Stateline for a heated argument. A few minutes later an altercation broke out. Both parties were separated on their own, only minor injuries were reported.

North Lake Tahoe security guard arrested on 403 felony counts

A North Lake Tahoe security guard has been arrested on 134 fugitive warrants from North Carolina for more than 300 charges of Third-Degree Sex Exploitation of a Minor.

Just after midnight on Thursday, April 25, deputies from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office responded to a disturbance call from the Crystal Bay Casino. Security guard Richard Britt called the deputies for assistance with an unwanted subject at the North Shore property.

Douglas County teams removing debris from river channels ahead of spring flooding

With warming temperatures and melting snow, Douglas County is reminding residents of the potential for some minor spring flooding in the months to come. With the spring run-off, citizens could expect to see some road closures on arterial roads such as Mottsville, Centerville Lane, Muller Lane and Genoa Lane.

In preparation for flooding, the Douglas County Stormwater Division has been removing flood debris in river channels with the Carson Valley Conservation District, Carson Water Subconservancy and Nevada Division of Water Resources.

El Dorado High teacher arrested on suspicion of sex with a minor student

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - A 34-year-old teacher at El Dorado High School was arrested Thursday by the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office (EDSO) for multiple violations.

An investigation began after a former student of James Eduardo Bourdett came forward and said she had a sexual relationship with him in 2017 when she was 17-years-old. At the time he was a teacher at Natomas Pacific Pathways Charter School in Sacramento.

The former student said she and Bourdett met repeatedly at his home in Cameron Park over a six-month period.

Sure, I like most of the vehicles I test, but there are some that stand out. Then from those stand out motor vehicles, we can find the best of the best. When you factor in price or bang for the buck, that best of the best gets very small, maybe two or three vehicles. The new Genesis G70 is one of them. The other vehicle is the Kia Stinger which is a slightly larger sibling of the G70. Sierra snowpack at 200% of average

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Under a misty rain, the fourth, and perhaps final, measurement of the snowpack in Philips, California for 2019 is complete, and it's good news from the Department of Water Resources (DWR).

Their manual survey recorded 106.5 inches of snow depth and a snow water equivalent (SWE) of 51 inches, which is 200 percent of average for the Phillips location outside Sierra-at-Tahoe.

Statewide, the Sierra Nevada snowpack is 162 percent of average.

A Brush With Kindness seeks homeowners in South Lake Tahoe

Habitat for Humanity’s 'A Brush With Kindness' is seeking low-income homeowners in South Lake Tahoe to apply for help with minor exterior repairs, painting, and completion of yard clean-up. Applications are being accepted until April 15, 2019
is accepting homeowner applications for 2019 until April 15.

Volunteer teams work to improve the condition of homes at minimum or no cost to homeowners who are unable to complete the work on their own.

Bart's Tahoe Apartments fail inspection, City Attorney to evaluate next steps

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Back in December 2018 the owners of Bart's Tahoe Apartments were issued a formal Notice and Order to repair and abate by the City of South Lake Tahoe. As a result of ongoing issues and a lack of willingness to fix the problems, they were 90 days to address a long list of safety issues and code violations.

Those 90 days were up on Friday, March 22, 2019, and City building inspectors and development services staff conducted an inspection and found the apartment building at 1224 Ski Run Boulevard continues to have unsafe living conditions.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Bijou Marketplace in South Lake Tahoe is starting to take shape with the first business, Chase Bank, open and serving the public. Panda Express will most likely be the next to open.

Also confirmed for spaces with plans submitted and approved are Whole Foods and Hub Coffee, with a nail salon and Five Guys currently in plan review.

Flood Advisory in place for most area counties

A Flood Advisory has been issued for Alpine County, Placer County, El Dorado County, Sierra County, Nevada County, Southern Washoe County, Douglas County, and Western Carson City. It will remain in effect until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday.

South Lake Tahoe rollover crash sends two to hospital with minor injuries

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A woman and her three-year-old child were transported to Barton Hospital Wednesday evening after their vehicle rolled several times on Pioneer Trail just east of Jicarilla Drive in South Lake Tahoe.

The early reports completed by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) state the 25-year-old driver lost control of her vehicle and it hit the guardrail twice before rolling and landing on its roof. Witnesses told responding Lake Valley Firefighters they saw the car roll five times.

Man arrested after honey oil lab starts house fire in Meyers

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A rental home in Meyers was severely damaged in a fire on January 15, 2019, the result of an illegal drug lab according to the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO).

At 3:18 p.m., Lake Valley Fire Protection District responded to the report of a car crashing into a home at the intersection of Tomahawk Lane and Apache Avenue. Upon arrival, they found a structure and vehicle fire and called in South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue for backup.

All okay after vehicle vs. pedestrian collision in Strawberry

STRAWBERRY, Calif. - A Sunday afternoon collision between a pedestrian and a Chevy Tahoe left a vehicle overturned and a pedestrian with very minor injuries near Strawberry, west of Lake Tahoe.

Road conditions changing on day that has brought snow, rain, thunder snow to Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Chain controls have been lifted on several Lake Tahoe area roads, but that doesn't mean the snow storm is over. January 20 has been a day full of weather, from rain and thunder snow, to white-outs at the ski resorts and breezy conditions.

Both Kirkwood and Heavenly Ski Resort had to close some ski lifts earlier today after lightning was striking in the area and Sierra-at-Tahoe closed early due to high lightning potential.

Sierra House Elementary students move to full-day schedules at STMS/Al Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Since a fire destroyed a section of Sierra House Elementary on November 11, 2018, students and staff have been dealing with the smoke damage, relocation, and minimum school days.

Just before the winter break classes were held at the Al Tahoe Elementary school site, home of the Boys & Girls Club, but that plan will now change starting January 14, 2018.

Lake Tahoe real estate market news

Looking at the economic news is enough to give you pause with rising interest rates, stock market volatility and real estate experiencing declining sales numbers and the reduction of appreciation. Our market (Lake Tahoe) will see a small negative impact from interest rates as they affect affordability but the last item, equity growth, will impact our market the greatest. The public is staying in their homes for a longer period historically and supported through the increase in remodeling, appliance and flooring sales.

Day 1 wrap up of South Lake Tahoe's SnowGlobe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The 8th annual SnowGlobe Music Festival in South Lake Tahoe is underway, and after Day 1 city officials reports it was a "smooth start."

The South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) said they had no significant problems or issues of any kind on Saturday and made just one arrest between 2:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.

In comparison, there were 13 arrests on the first day of the festival in 2017.

Even outside the festival things were quiet.

Monsignor Murrough Wallace facing accusations of sexual abuse

Monsignor Murrough Wallace, who served the South Lake Tahoe community at the St. Theresa Parish from 1993 to 2003, has been accused by a man who said Wallace and another priest sexually abused him in 1985 when he was 17.

The accuser, known as John Doe in court documents, said he was volunteering at Camp Pendola when the alleged abuse took place.

Due to the allegations, Wallace, who is now 82 and retired, had to withdraw from ministry until more facts could be gathered, according to Bishop Soto of the Sacramento Diocese.

The new year brings new laws in California

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There are new laws in California in 2019 that will affect those on the road, bike paths, eating at restaurants, paying bail and receiving minimum wage. In 2018, 1,217 bills made it to Governor Brown's desk and he signed 1,016 of them which are now new laws.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - If unusual issues come in threes, then its now safe for schools in the Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD).

Following on the heels of the November 11 fire at Sierra House Elementary, two more schools in LTUSD had issues this week that caused the schools to close.

Public invited to hockey games in South Lake Tahoe

The Tahoe Prep Hockey Academy Varsity team has been competing across the country and they bring the action back to their home ice on Saturday at the South Lake Tahoe Ice Arena.

Coming off a 7-0 win over Los Gatos at the Solar4Amerian Ice in San Jose on Tuesday, the Tahoe team hosts St. Mary's Preparatory High School Rams on Saturday, November 10 at 1:00 p.m. This game is part of the team's competition in the Anaheim Ducks High School Hockey League.

Lane closures over on Kingsbury Grade, NDOT project nearing completion

STATELINE, Nev. - Lane closures in place on Kingsbury Grade (SR 207) this summer have been removed now that the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) has substantially completed a project to enhance roadway drainage pipes on the Carson Valley side of the road.

Motorists can still expect some intermittent minor shoulder and other closures.

Lake Tahoe fire damages Elk Point home

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - A fire Wednesday evening caused moderate fire damage and heavy smoke damage to a home in the Elk Point area of Douglas County.

At 6:55 p.m., Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District (TDFPD) responded to the fire on Elks Lane north of Nevada Beach.

2019 to be major road construction year in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Just as road construction is wrapping up for the second phase of the "Y" to Trout Creek Bridge project in South Lake Tahoe, plans were unveiled for the next building season.

Caltrans Project Manager Clark Peri presented an outline of three of their projects on the South Shore during Tuesday's City Council meeting.

Hiker missing near Skunk Harbor in Lake Tahoe found Sunday morning

A call was made to Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) 911 on Saturday, September 8 at approximately 3:30 p.m., alerting them of a missing man in his 60s at Lake Tahoe. The caller, the man's wife, said her husband had left around noon to go hiking in the area of Skunk Harbor on the east shore of Lake Tahoe and she hadn't heard from him.

Vehicle crashes into tree and rolls over near Skyland in Lake Tahoe

A driver sustained minor injuries in a crash north of Zephyr Cove near Skyland Monday afternoon.

Just before 4:00 p.m., an unidentified adult woman traveling in a southwesterly direction drove her car off Highway 50 and into a tree where the car subsequently rolled over.

The woman suffered minor injuries and refused medical treatment, according to Trooper Matt McLaughlin of the Nevada Highway Patrol. He said she got a ride home as her car is undriveable.

Highway 50 was backed up with traffic for about an hour as emergency crews worked at the scene.

'Make America Great Again" hat leads to altercation and arrest of El Dorado County teen

A Union Mine High School student was arrested Monday, August 27 after an altercation began on school grounds over a 'Make America Great Again' hat worn by another student.

The arrested student, a minor, began verbally berating the student wearing the hat. He then grabbed the hat off of the other student’s head and threw it to the ground. The teacher told the upset student to leave the classroom.

Motorhome leads law enforcement on chase from South Lake Tahoe to Gardnerville

A motorhome being driven recklessly through South Lake Tahoe and Stateline led law enforcement on a high-speed ride along Highway 50, over Spooner Summit and into the Carson Valley before it crashed into a building in Gardnerville, Nev.

At 10:30 p.m. Sunday, August 26, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) was alerted about the 1997 Airstream motorhome speeding through South Lake Tahoe, running red lights and traveling without headlamps on. They saw it as it crossed into Nevada traveling 55 mph in a 35-mph zone when an enforcement stop was initiated.

Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition distributes over 200 free bike racks throughout Tahoe Basin

The Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition is distributing 215 free bicycle racks throughout the Lake Tahoe Basin, creating secure parking for 430 bicycles at key public destinations.

Supported by funding from the Tahoe Fund and the Nevada Commission on Tourism and in-kind support from the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, the nonprofit Bike Coalition is distributing the high-quality bike racks to Tahoe’s local jurisdictions and government agencies.
