Public lands money for parks and trails dries up

Through the sale of $3 billion in public land in Clark County, cities and counties throughout Nevada have built hundreds of parks and trails, pollution has been kept out of Lake Tahoe and forest fires have been prevented. To a crowd of about 200, the South Lake Tahoe City Council met to hear the 2011-12 Budget Proposal from its city manager and finance director on Thursday.  There was an obvious tension between the council and members of the public who attended the meeting, though the general sentiment of the council and city manager is that the deficit issues are not their fault, and that employee sacrifice is what is required to balance the budget.

Amid voting for favorite websites, blogs, restaurants, American Idol contestants and more, residents of South Lake Tahoe have the opportunity to vote in an actual public election. Elections for the Lake Tahoe Community College board, the Lake Tahoe Unified School District board, the South Tahoe Public Utility District board and a ballot measure regarding recreation funds will all be decided by voters on Nov. 8.

New landmark installed at Lake Tahoe Golf Course

After two months of sweat, scrapes, carving and lots of attention paid to detail, a new sign went up Tuesday at Lake Tahoe Golf Course, marking a generation of landmarks that bring in an all-encompassing natural environment perspective.
With the design furnished by Lake Tahoe Golf Course, Jeanette Minier developed, constructed and hand-carved the sign which is now perched at the entrance of the golf course at 2500 Emerald Bay Road. Final touches with masonry continues.
